Stop with the Evander Kane for Jordan Staal non sense. Where did you hear this? That makes absolutely no sense for Winnipeg.

Forget where, but essentially the logic was, Kane doesn't want to stay in Winnipeg and will not re-sign (he's currently RFA). WPG wants young proven offense in return, preferably at C, so that's pretty limited. Maybe there is an extra draft pick going to WPG if Staal doesn't resign...

Kane is an RFA so the Jets hold the cards, they wont trade Kane for a pending UFA no matter how good that player is.

The word reputable does not belong in a sentence with the name Rob Rossi. He's a buffoon. Dejan Kavacavic *sp* was laughing at Rossi as much as the trade proposal.

Rossi likes to make himself part of the story. He calls himself a reporter, but all too frequently feels he needs to offer his opinions......which are frequently absurd. He once said Crosby won't even talk to him..... To that I say Sid is a good judge of character.

fair enough...i figured that if the blogger was to quote the guy he must be somewhat reputable...but he is a bufoon if he honestly believes the canes would part with 2 young guys who have played extremely well with upside, and the #8 pick, and take Martin's salary? Absurd...It is true the Canes are looking for a top 6 forward to add to the team, but I doubt they are going to do it at the expense of young/cheap talent...

So, you must think Richard Cloutier is a buffoon as well, right?

Staal's age and potential are going to lead to 20 offers. The Pens will get a kings ransom for Staal if he's moved. That offer wouldn't suprise me at all.

Another thing I dont want to give up Staal ever. I listen to these guys who say he's not a true #1 but he plays a style that wins. He is one of our best players every playoffs. He does everything.

I gurantee any trade that goes down the fans of that team will hate it until they watch Staal play all season. He's a beast and he's one of the best even if he wont put up the 100 points most fans need to justify the #1 C label.

if he is spouting the same nonsense...then yes...

bottom line...most teams fans and media WAY overvalue their tradebait....

I dont disagree with J. Staals ability...what I disagree with is that the Canes would even consider giving up a minute eating, young defenseman and a defensively sound, 15 goal a year center, both of which have come up through the organization, and the #8 pick...and take on a horrible contract...that is laughable....would the canes want staal? yes...are they willing to move backwards to do it? i highly doubt it...

If indeed the Penguins are content on keeping Staal and risking him walk, then any potential deal would most likely have to be over the top to catch Shero's attention.

Well, after July 1st (no need to make it a draft day deal) they can negotiate with Staal...assuming he and Kane sign, this makes a lot of sense...

Personally I would not try to acquire Staal if that were the case, but it depends how bad the Canes ownership wants to market the Staal brother connection.

Why would Staal sign in Winnipeg though? Staal will have options, he can go anywhere he wants, it might just be me but I dont think Winnipeg is an ideal landing spot for him.

Kane may come for slightly less money and be easier to fit in the top 6 lines, but I'd prefer Staal...

I cant speak to the rumors of that Carolina proposed deal but I do agree with this part 100%:

But look, I can tell you, the Penguins are under, they are totally confident in the approach, of letting Staal play out this year because they believe that they have a team that can go and contend for a championship and they’ll try to sign him during the season. If it doesn’t come to that, the ultimate risk is you took one more crack with those big three and it didn’t get done, Staal hits free agency. That’s just a risk they’re willing to take.”

To me I would rather take another run at it. First time in 3 years all 3 centers are healthy and ready to go as well as Orpik. If the risk is losing Staal for nothing, so be it.

- Gunner Staal

Not on board with that at all. No quicker way to deplete your team than letting an asset like Staal walk for nothing. Furthermore, if Rob Rossi is saying that, I'm 100% confident Shero feels entirely different. Just my opinion.

I look at what Philly did with their moves last year. That team is loaded up for years to come. If they didn't hamstring themselves with that idiot tender for eternity, I'd be really nervous about competing with them year after year.

That's a ridiculous overpayment.

People are insane if they give up that much for Staal.

What's Malkin worth then, the GDP of Switzerland?

Staal is very good. He is not, however, the second coming.

I agree. Couturier will be the better of the two in the same category of C's..

I have no idea what Shero could get for Staal but I feel there will be plenty teams bidding on him. The team that does land him the fanbase will look at the trade and feel they lost. Why? Because we dont need to trade him and that's the only way a trade happens.

Again I hope he stays but think that it's getting to the point that Shero is going to get a offer he cant say no too.

true...so maybe he gets 7 if he signs now, vs risking the year (either through injury, or other statistical issues)...it's a tough call for him if that offer comes up. WPG is a younger team, has good core with some good offense coming in...Staal with Wheeler + could be a really good line...

WPG does suck as a place to live though...really depends on Staal. If he's truly willing to stay in Pittsburgh for 5.5-6, Pens should sign him though...really, move Malkin to the wing.

And yet, everytime the guy who runs this site, Mr. Flyers fan himself, opens his yap and says XXX (insert your highly prized guy - Weber, Nash) could be headed to Philly, it looks like they are willing to rip apart the roster to acquire that.

was a bit of a gag, but seriously... I would rather do things that took less time if I had only a day or two in a city. nice stadium, but kind off sucks up a big part of your trip
