I've been thinking about the PAP situation. I dont believe we will sign him. I dont believe we had any intention of signing him for the money PAP wanted and Snow wasnt willing to set a president by giving him away for what was offered.

In retrospect. Or as some of us here on HB suggested. Getting something is better than getting nothing. Keeping him for the Big Playoff push was Fools Gold at best. Anyone following the team knew you either had to be a wide eyed fool or an idiot to think the Isles had a chance of making the PO's.

So then why did we keep him, knowing that we will lose him?

Good question!

Thanks for asking.

There can be only one correct answer. Snow feels he can use the money that would have been spent on PAP to get someone who will do more to improve the Islanders then PAP.

Simple. Makes sense right.

Well check out the UFA right wings available this yr. Is there any that are better or equal to PAP? I dont think so. Maybe there is a diamond in the rough that I am unaware of.

So, could it be that Snow will use that money to entice the UFA "D" man we so desperately need? Thats a possibility. There are several out there that could help.

Or Snow plans on dipping into our talent pool and making a major trade.

So as bad as it may look right now. Maybe not signing PAP. Will improve the team in the long run.

The only other alternative. And its not an option that anyone will like. Is Snow fills the roster with retreads and washed up vets like he did last yr and spins the same old story to the fans. You know the story.

Lets hope this summer will be different. I hope so. I see a little glimmer of hope that it will be. But then again. I felt this way last summer and look what happened.

You can't have too many goalie prospects in the fold. It Clearly is the most important position on the ice... clearly. Between Nillson, Poulin, Koskinen, etc.... one of these will be the franchise goaltender we Desperately need.

That's quite a statement. I wish I was as sure as you are

I hope he is right but with our luck with goaltenders I dont know. I mean as long as Ricky is on this team and he is talkign to these guys there is no hope

As the koolaide guy this is my biggest issue with Snow other than last years OLD man binge at the end of camp.

I am not a Mets fan.. but when they let Reyes leave without getting anything for him I was disgusted. When a team is struggling, money issues, attendance issues, etc. You need to milk every assett for every single drop it is worth. You knew the Isles were not going to make the playoffs... Long term benefit of team has to be thought process. put a piece of paper in front of them at the deadline and say.. sign or gone!! period.. then every pending UFA that has not signed an extension gets moved for something of value: draft pick, prospect, etc. As a GM of a franchise like the Isles you have to make the tough decisions.

Yes We sat back when the Rangers gave Redden 6 mill a year forever. We sat back when Toronto "stole" our hero Jason Blake for over 5 mill a year forever. We sat back while Gomez got a zillion dollars, and Drury got a zillion dollars, etc. etc. sometimes sitting back is the right thing to do ..
- niteislander

Ok that is why you pick and choose wisely. Obviously the Rangers did not but there are so many other players that panned out with new teams. The Islanders need to do something. They are losing fans and they are sick of them being a failure of a franchise. I mean if you ok with that then good I am happy for you but some of us are fed up and the rebuild still ahs not worked. WE still pick int eh bottom five every year. We are supposed to be getting better each year not staying staus Quo. They need vets who still have a little in the tank to help this team out and not GArth Snows friends who are hanging from a thread

This is the odds out favorite. Unfortunately his track record has shown that this is probably what we are in store for. The lemmings will be on here next year saying the same things. We have to reach the floor, they have to spend money, etc...
Now, the question I think is can Snow break the mold and actually do something, anything to improve this team besides drafting? That remains to be seen.

It was a bone head move but even I will hold judgement(to an extent)and wait and see how it plays out. My biggest problem is Capuano being on for next season. You can't tell your fans you are committed to winning and sign this guy on again and have him coaching your developing prospects. It makes zero sense and doesn't make them any more credible.

We are losing the casual fans... the diehards will never leave.

I understand not going to the games.

I would rather sit on my couch and watch it.

It's only exciting @ the game if you are winning.

@ least @ home you can change the channel....

This is NY... diehard idiots like us are not going anywhere until the team moves. The rest of NY will be back the second they are winning. When the Isles started the last 2 season on a positive note the place was packed... of course we then tanked in November to crush all hopes.. but the point is NY is fickle fan base.

look at football I have never seen so many Jets fans in my life the last few years. They had one non playoff season and everyone is wearing Giants gear again..The fans are always flocking to the winning team.

Ok on the prospect level we did great NHL lever well that sucks. Problem is yeah prospect can look great in the other leagues but when they come up here and the dont perform then we have nothing. GArth should now turn his attention to the NHL level where winning actually matters

What "hockey site" has us in the top five? Last i checked we were middle tier according to THN? Where have we finished the last five years? Don't you think if you have picked in the top five for five years we should have shown at least a marginal rise in the standings?

This isn't football. You are not going to get that Jets/Giants runoff that those teams get. Rangers/Islanders for the most part don't have band wagon fans.

I have been a season ticket holder for a Loooong time. When they win 4 games in a row the place starts getting crowded. If they were a winning team they would sell 14,000 tickets.
