Where's NYI been? That's usually the one time on here people band together. I haven't heard MSG bashing, front loaded contracts, SMG and Lemeuix, and feel bad for Wang and snow talk in quite a while now...

Here, I'll try... Wang is a terrible owner. Snow is disgraceful and Milbury needs to be taken out back and shot.

Oh, and Lemeuix has done a wonderful job with the Pens now and Yzerman looks to be making better progress in a shorter time then Snow

From Darren Draeger's Blog:

Garth Snow has a track record for wheeling and dealing at the draft and I suspect he will consider anything thrown his way in the next couple of weeks.

The Islanders, like all NHL teams, are eager to see what the collective bargaining agreement is going to look like. A new CBA may help guide them, but the Isles will have to comply with whatever the structure of the salary cap is. However, without a new building and the ongoing speculation over the future of the franchise, selling free agents on the merits of moving to Long Island is a very difficult challenge.

The Isles are a good, young team that isn't far from being a very good team, but the uncertainty that plagues this organization definitely impacts the on-ice product.

guess who disagrees.....

(Raising Hand)

There is nothing in common with the Coyotes & Islanders.

Coyotes are owned by the NHL.. they have unlimited resources to make the team succeed while trying to find a suitable buyer to keep them in AZ. They have a brand new building.

The Isles are owned by a man trying to build a team, while trying to put a tourniquet on the amount of money he is losing, while trying to find a home for his team after the 2015 season.

The sands can't keep shifting. The argument always goes like this.

It's the old building.

Detroit has an old building, players still go there.

Well, actually, it's not the building, it's the uncertainty that the team might move and players are thinking about their families.

Phoenix is rumored move at any given moment. There's not even a fixed date on it like the Islanders. Players still go there.

It's because Wang is losing money.

I thought he was throwing all this money at free agents who are taking less to play elsewhere?

Go back to the top and start over.

its not just MM's legacy
Its not just the building
Its not just the owner
its not just the possible move
its not just the decade+ of inadequacy

Its all these things combined, 1 or 2 are easy to over look...

No top tier free agent wants to come to a rebuild. They want to go to the place that is going to be the most fun to play & Winning = Fun
No one wanted to play in that dump Detroit in the 80's, they turned that ship around at the start of the 90's & no one cares about the building.
If the Islanders were a contending team for a few years in a row.. NVMC wouldnt matter. The players would play there, the fans would flock there & the old building would be "classic" & "an old barn" not a friggen albatross around the neck of this team.

So we have a few choices... we can stay the course & deal with the growing pains, to turn this thing around.

keep throwing cash at top tier free agents & hope that one cares more about cash then winning (not really the type of player we want)

Find a top tier player on the market (without a NTC, or NMC) and trade for him.

over pay some mid tier free agents to sway them to the team.

Anyone see any other options?
