Because we own his rights.. he's one of our prospects.. how is us resigning one of our own prospects Garth putting up the white flag???

- XxNYIxX

Cause he brought him back will resign Staios and PAndolfo and say becasue we signed JJ we are a better team. Like we have no room for everyone else. Come on now do you really have confidence in a GM who has done except build up the prospects? He has done nothing for the NHL ISLANDERS, but has done great filling spots for the lower leagues. I dont know most GMs also worry about the team in the NHL but we are for some reason backwards.

I cannot believe this is even being discussed

werent you the one that gave me a hard time for deciding what is and isnt ok to be discussed???

(let it be known, i dont care for JJ and (based on what i last saw of him) would prefer him not on the team)

Yeah, i was. I was commenting on how absurd it was that WE(including myself)were discussing whether JJ is good or not, I don't believe it's really a debate. Not singling out a group of people who were in a conversation I was not involved in like the day I commented on your post.

This was the Black Hawks board:

Hjalmarsson, more specifically his $3.5 million annual salary, is rumored as being shopped heavily, as are Michal Frolik, Bryan Bickell and Viktor Stalberg.

How about Hajmarsson and Stalberg for our #2 or #3 pick and Reasonor?

other GMs walk into teams that have prospects in the minors.. we didn't.. there was nothing. Snow has started from scratch & is doing quite well with that. The prospects that Snow has drafted & have been developed by this franchise are beginning to make their way to the NHL.

BTW.. JJ was signed to compete for a roster spot. If he makes it.. his salary doesn't help the cap problem.. so he wouldn't be on the team for that reason. So what's the problem? If he makes it he earned it.. if not he goes back to Europe.

The only bright news I can find to possibly prevent this from happening is that now that he's signed so many of the younger guys to contracts there are only so many roster spots left. There's not enough roster space left to only sign enough of the 1 -2 million dollar a year Pandolfo/Staios types to reach the floor. In my mind there has to be at least 1 big money signing. And I can't believe that Wang is the kind of business man thats going to be willing to pay a guy like Thomas to not play.
- PeteM

I brought this up a while ago... The real issue is I think Thomas would not be getting paid b/c he chose not to play this year.... BUT his sallary would still count againt the cap. (I may be wrong on this whole scenario.. but I don't think I am .. someone please correct me if I am) .. So essentially Snow could take on Thomas for a pick to help out Boston cap wise.. and it would bring them close to cap floor without spending a dime.

Edit: I see XX already addressed this..

Its Genius really.

That is not to say I agree with it, but its not against the rules of the cap, its not an issue brought up in the CBA... if Wang goes this route i can't fault him for it... I can disapprove... but i understand.

I could easily see us grabbing a guy that had a huge front end loaded contract b/c he would cost X against the cap and only cost the Islanders a portion of that number. This would also be Shady but I can except it (Gomezor Komi type player)... The Tim Thomas thing would just be disgusting.

Komi makes sense b/c he is getting 3.5 and is a 4.5 cap hit.

This was why I originally thought we might have a prayer at PK Subban... Give the Habs our 4th pick in draft and DeHaan... take PK and Gomez horrible contract. He saves Wang 2 mill this year and 3 mill next (how much his cap hit truly is againt what he is getting).. Then grab Komi for a can of Pepsi.

If he even has an inkling along those lines. I think before Wang did that. He should just wash his hands off and sell the team. We as fans could never live that one down and I'm sure it would be an embarrassment to the NHL. In the end its a lose, lose all around.

It would make any other embarrassing moment in Isle's history look tame by comparison.

Come on we all know what is going to happen. Snow will go off the board and pick some weird pick at #4, as for free agents he will find some washed up vets to fill the void. No trades with GArth he does not know how to do that. Plus he already made his big signing getting Jonessu back. He will resign Staios and PAndolfo. Donovan and maybe De Haan will play next year and there is your team. If you think anything different is going to happen youa re delisuional.

Also I have this funny feeling Garth signs JAson Blake.

- kasperrko

You left out taking Tim Thomas' contract off the B's hands to get his cap hit and squeak to the floor because he is incapable of trading for talent.

I wear a helmet when i go to school. The only reason why he can make this team is because no other NHL team would take him. He is big true but does not use that to his ability. I see him maybe just maybe scoring 5 goals. If you ask me his chance to be a NHL player has passed. The Islanders tried him here a few times and well he did not impress anyone except for Wang and Snow cause he is cheap. We got to fill the gaps some how.

Calling Jon Sim!!

Fact!

So, would it be wise for Garth to start drafting & signing EVERY goalie prospect on Earth, thus creating a stranglehold at the position so by Year 15 of the rebuild there isn't a goalie outside of Men's Beer League available to play for the other 31 teams?
