Thanks, I really like him a lot. He has great vision and the chemistry with JT and MM. I think he may go for the big money but will never enjoy his hockey the same way. Hoping he resigns after July 1st withIsles and I will grab him in our free agent draft.

He took a while but finally developed into a very decent NHL player. He was one of those guys that just needed some time (don't tell anyone on here that). He gives the puck up too much .. especially on the PP but he gets better every year. He could end up being a huge mistake letting him get away but I don't think that is the case. If he took 4 mill a year Garth would probably match. when someone gives him 5+ he will be gone.

Why would the Isles draft Subban's brother? Another goaltender? We already have three highly regarded goaltending prospects in the system.

I'm sick of the speculation. Just get the draft over with. I hope Snow doesn't "F" this up.

Best player Available @ # 34... I doubt he will be there, so no worries...

I've been thinking about the PAP situation. I dont believe we will sign him. I dont believe we had any intention of signing him for the money PAP wanted and Snow wasnt willing to set a president by giving him away for what was offered.

In retrospect. Or as some of us here on HB suggested. Getting something is better than getting nothing. Keeping him for the Big Playoff push was Fools Gold at best. Anyone following the team knew you either had to be a wide eyed fool or an idiot to think the Isles had a chance of making the PO's.

So then why did we keep him, knowing that we will lose him?

Good question!

Thanks for asking.

There can be only one correct answer. Snow feels he can use the money that would have been spent on PAP to get someone who will do more to improve the Islanders then PAP.

Simple. Makes sense right.

Well check out the UFA right wings available this yr. Is there any that are better or equal to PAP? I dont think so. Maybe there is a diamond in the rough that I am unaware of.

So, could it be that Snow will use that money to entice the UFA "D" man we so desperately need? Thats a possibility. There are several out there that could help.

Or Snow plans on dipping into our talent pool and making a major trade.

So as bad as it may look right now. Maybe not signing PAP. Will improve the team in the long run.

The only other alternative. And its not an option that anyone will like. Is Snow fills the roster with retreads and washed up vets like he did last yr and spins the same old story to the fans. You know the story.

Lets hope this summer will be different. I hope so. I see a little glimmer of hope that it will be. But then again. I felt this way last summer and look what happened.

Don't worry about it. They re-signed Joensuu to a one-way deal. They don't need PAP anymore...

I was actually upset when JJ went to Europe last year. He only played a few games for us but really looked solid. He is a big kid, can hit, has very good hands. I was excited to see him (and Haley, Donovan, Ullstrom, etc.) play for the big club. He was one of the many disappointents I had with the team they went with starting the season.

I promise you all that JJ will have more goals this year than Nino last year.

Ok on the prospect level we did great NHL lever well that sucks. Problem is yeah prospect can look great in the other leagues but when they come up here and the dont perform then we have nothing. GArth should now turn his attention to the NHL level where winning actually matters

prospects have to develop to NHL level....why is this so hard?

Just because we have more prospects then before and we were lucky enough to draft John Tavares does not mean we have shown progress. Picking in the top five for five years straight does not show progress for a "professional" sports team.
- Cptmjl

JT isnt a prospect....you cant say they have a mid-tier prospect pool and then say youll only believe they have top 5 prospects when they develop in the NHL....youre holding the isles prospects to a high standard then the rest of the NHL....

We will trade down. Reasoner will be our 4th line center next year. Forget Nail we will have a 1st overall pick next year unless the Oilers manage to steal another one. The Playoff push starts today

NHL Commissioner Gary Bettman is preparing to take control of the money-losing hockey franchise in the event Vanderbeek fails to refinance the Devils' debt before a looming Aug. 14 deadline, The Post has learned.

In recent days, the commissioner's office has told potential suitors to be ready in case he moves on the team and pushes Vanderbeek aside, a source close to the situation said. Vanderbeek is near a deal to sell a majority stake to a mystery investor, which would allow him to keep control of the Eastern Conference champions, one source said. The proceeds from a sale would be used to repay lenders much of the $77 million in past due debt.

Everyone bolded either sucks or has proved little to nothing at all. They are prospects which is good but saying we have taken a HUGE step forward is nuts. "Step forward" usually means the team is showing progress(standings, etc), we have not.
- Cptmjl

this is in a nutshell where the 2 sides disagree...EVERYONE agrees that seeing the obvious progress (in the standings) is signs of progress...however those (including myself) believe that even before you see progress in the standings, you have to see progress on the rosters...which has/continues to happen.

I was actually being sarcastic. I do not believe that Joensuu is a very good player or that he will even come close to matching PAP's production. I also don't believe that Joensuu is actually Snow's "Plan B" if PAP leaves. He MUST have another plan and I bet Joensuu was more likely a replacement for Pandolfo or Nino than PAP. But yes, I agree. He will definitely score more than Nino did this past year. It shouldn't be too hard for him to get more than 1 goal and 1 total point in 55 games.

eeek. disagree, i was moer than happy to see him leave. he is a Big kid and he can hit (but he doesnt)....he was slow and always looked a step behind everyone. i believe there are better prospects with more upside than him, id be fine with him playing in europe.
