wasn't the verdict on reimer from the leafs brass that he didn't have a concussion? whiplash effects?
they we're in denial about that most of the season... - joel878
You don't keep whiplash effects from October to March and than end up having to be shut down from it. On top of that Reimer had a history of concussions in the past as made evident by the weasel reporter who interviewed his mom |

scrivens would be far from the first goaltender to "dominate" the ahl. yann denis is the latest. people over estimate how the levels translate. - joel878
Bingo.........
I"ve even heard some veteran goalies say that some NHL goalies couldn't even be successful in the ahl due to the lack of structure there is vs the NHL so it goes both ways.
Now take that statement with a grain of salt but I can definitely understand what he means.
As a goalie of 15 years, I know when I play pick up with a bunch of terrible players, I let in some pretty poopty goals because you're used to reading a higher caliber play. So possibly a similar effect. |

maybe not.. but he was damn close.
there was certainly some rumblings that rask was the better of the two. - joel878
There currently are rumblings that Scrivens is the best of the Leafs prospects, there have been since we got him... I remember when there was no chance the Leafs would get him, because he was just about NHL-ready, and the Leafs didn't have room for another goalie. |

Oh at this point. I'm more worried about his concussion issues than his level of play.
The kid showed healthy that he can be a damn good goalie at this level. But concussion issues in the past and the lingering effects from october to march makes me nervous too |

I'm sorry but until he dominates the NHL with 35-40 games like Reimer did when he came in, I can't put him on the same level of Reimer just yet....... |

Strome is basically Kadri, with a bit more size. |

I want a Reimer/Scrivens tandem for next year. We're not in any shape to do anything meaningful next year anyways. |

it's a panic trade about 3-4 years to early for the leafs. by the time the leafs are competing for a championship, can't finish lou will be heading for the glue factory. and he only takes up 6 mil in cap space a season until then.
absoloutely senseless. - joel878
We get him for nothing and the contract has 6 years of value to it |

by leaf standards of the past decade or so of goaltending....... I can say dominate
After seeing Toskalolol and $hitcroft....... he dominated in my eyes |

Here's what trading for Luongo tells me
Burke is more worried about his own ass and saving his job than really believing in a rebuild he's preached for so long
If he goes with Scrivens and Reimer to find out what he has now instead of later, than he is a man of principle and his word.
If he takes the chicken $hit way out............. I won't be very happy and he'll never be able to sell me on anything ever again |

just like the gus/reimer combo. i think there's got to be an effort. sure the high picks are what the team needs.. but when getting slaughtered becomes the standard, guys like schenn regress. you have to instill a winning atmosphere in your franchise if you expect young high end talent to properly develop at the nhl level, and consider your franchise the future. it quickly becomes a (frank) it, i still get paid, approach. |

i don't care what anyone says.. gillis isn't letting him go for "nothing"
it's a completely useless move for the leafs. |

2 seasons, and that's in large part because he signed on with the Leafs, who had a backlog with Giggy as the vet, Gus who they were still trying to figure out, and Reimer, who'd worked his way up with the Leafs.
He signed on to work with Allaire, just like the rest did. |

I've always said this and I'll keep saying it.. you wont know what you have with your young goaltenders unless you play them and stick with them. That's what LA did with Quick and look at him now, be patient. |

How is it the chicken way out? Luongo is a good goalie, just cause his contract poop and we dont have the cap space to acquire him exactly, does not mean he is not good. Alot of teams would want luongo, though with luongos short list of teams, it will never happen. |

It's not a great plan... The biggest issue with Leafs players lately has been a lack of confidence... and when every youngster's mistake is backed up with only some shaky goaltending, you're looking at a huge confidence hit.
The Leafs really need to find a reliable old vet. Reimer and Scrivens could be great next season, but it may not be worth the risk. |
