He'll play Lu about 30-35 games to keep Schneider happy and when Schneider is UFA Lu will have more time burned off of his albatross.
Van might not get much value, but they won't be taking on a bad contract in return. - TheTaoOfSemenko
I doubt Luongo will have a slightly better trade value next year when he's 1yr older, with the same contract and just came off a season where he was a backup. |

It's a big risk to assume Schneider will stick around...even if he says he's "happier" with the situation. If his agent thinks he'll be better off elsewhere, and to be honest he is if his only fair crack at being the true #1 in Vancouver is if they can successfully unload Luongo. The goaltending decision past next season may never be in the organization's hand. |

If the Canucks are taking back salary...pretty sure Chicago could dig up 5 mill in cap space to go back that is better than Komisarek or Connolly.
See...this is what I don't get. Why do you think it's ok for Toronto to be able to give back crap salary and not a team like Chicago??? - stormeyAlterEgo
Name somone? Oduya? He only gets paid 3.3, and i highly doubt they will move Keith or Seabrook,
I'm pretty sure Chicago isn't giving up on Crawford anyways. |

The difference is CRAP
What crap does Chicago want to get rid of??
You see, for Chicago to get rid of 5 million in contracts, they actually will be giving up some decent players, then they would have to try and replace them |

Just an idea since Toronto is in the same boat as Buffalo.. looking for a center..
Why haven't I heard a lot about doing a trade with SJ?
Clow, Pavelski, Thornton, and Marleau can all play the pivot.. all in different parts of their career so each would be a different package going back..
Pavelski, Neimi
for
Something like Colburne and a young D-man.. Gunnar/Gardiner/Schenn, and Scrivens.
maybe a few draft picks to equal things out.. - JVince117
There was lots of noise a few days ago about a trade almost done with SJ.

If Chicago was in the NE Division, I'm sure they'd be able to put a better package together for Lu. Guess it comes down to who Gillis hates more....Burke or Chicago....and the answer to that may be a coin flip |

Can't he just file for arbitration? - The Law
I guess he could but I doubt he would.
Schneiders agent: "my client should be paid like a number one."
Canucks: "Why? He's always been a back up."
Independent arbitrator looks at the stats......Schneider is not going to be happy.
The Canucks could take him although I doubt they do, hoping to sign him to a long term deal. |

you're nuts.. why in hell would chicago give up anything of value?
as soon as a second team enters the picture and the price goes up the two GM's will drop out quickly.. nobody wants a guy signed til he is 43.. plain and simple
luongo will not get a good return... mark my words. |

They should ....I think Tim "the oklahoma bomber' Thomas might end up there if he decides to stop being so weird.
For all the chatter about how Gillis and BB wouldn't do a trade ....we think Van and Chicago would? I think they're sending him East. |

He's got plenty of options.
The Leafs have one option, Luongo. That puts Burkie in a very tough spot.
Gardiner, Schenn + 1st for Luongo.

I've just got this weird feeling Luongo's going to end up in SJ. It wouldn't be the first time Doug Wilson made a huge, surprise move in the offseason.
I could see Luongo+ for Niemi and Marleau.
Let's hope I'm wrong though. |

Burke gets fired if the Leafs miss the playoffs. Luongo is his only ticket to the playoffs.
Gillis knows this and is going to fleece Burkie. |

They go to arbitration, then after this year he is a UFA and hits the open market, where he will most definitely get starter $$$. Vancouver risks being stuck with Louongo, who has lost now lost the crowd. That would be trouble. |
