So you're willing to give up stuff for Luongo but not Bernier. That's just ridiculous, so many better options then Luongo. |

We won't have to give up anything of substance to get Luongo........ in fact, the Nucks are going to have to take one of our garbage players........ take your pick, Komi, Lombo, Army or Connoly |

What has Bernier proven that makes him worth a significant return? I'm not saying Luongo is right now, but if that's what LA wants, they can keep him and watch his value fall over another season again. |

So the Canucks are going to take no assests back and take the Leafs garbage for Luongo?
No.
There may be salary going back but there will also be assets. |

lol.. fine.. they can keep him
they want to move a ten year contract in a low demand goalie market it will cost them.. plain and simple
gillis needs to find a way to create a market for luongo if he wants a good return |

I'm sure they'd rather keep him than take back Komisarek and no assets. |

I think it was clear in the playoffs that he would no longer be an understudy. I think they'd rather have Luongo play 30 games than Komisarek play 80. |

Last year when I said that Blowhard was getting hosed by his continuing to hang on to and add bad contracts like Komisarek, Lombardi, Armstrong and Connolly many hear defended Burke saying he was paying the price to build a contender. Well the Leafs are still a lottery team and some of the people who defended what they did last year in signing Lomnardi and Connolly are now twisting the logic in the belief that Blowhard has Gillis over a barrel and he will be forces to take one of these ineffectual overpaid players for one of the premier goalies in the league.
I get so frustrated by the failure of some Leaf fans to be able to grasp reality.
Last year when Blowhard made a few if those bad deals, I suggested the Senators would build a contender faster than the Leafs. Many of you ridiculed the idea. Can someone provide me with any evidence that Burke has even the remotest idea of what he is doing. |

Keep Luongo and play him 30 - 35 games.
I think he will be traded. Absolutely. But they will get a return for him of some sort of assets. Not a negative value like Komisarek. |

i dont disagree.. but thats a pretty damn expensive backup goalie
personally i dont want luongo.. it would be a step away from the youth movement we've been suffering through..
but c'est la vie.. now that the television giants own the club playoffs will be a huge priority.. rogers and bell wont want to lose out on that kind of money |

So they need to sign Schneider, and they are going to keep Luongo as well. Therefore they are going to tie up roughly 9-10 million in goalies??
Seriously you think Gillis or any other GM is going to have a 5.5 million cap hit goalie as a back up??
Think about it........ |

IF the Leaf get Luongo (still not convinced Gillis and Burke will do a deal) but IF....it will likely be a salary going back that the Nucks could use (maybe Connolly with Kesler missing the start of the year) and a second and half decent prospect.
That would be my guess. |

Yet you think it's ok for him to have a 4.5 mill for a 6 or 7 defenseman?

Does Gillis want the risks?
The agent for Vancouver goalie Cory Schneider says he would not be shocked if both Roberto Luongo and his client remain with the Canucks next season.
"No, I wouldn't be surprised," Mike Liut, himself a former longtime NHL goalie, said Monday. "Cory is not unrestricted so that is part of the process, too. If he were unrestricted, then I would be absolutely surprised. Astounded would be closer to the word. But that is not where they are at."

Think about this...
If Luongo's NTC doesn't travel with him if he waives it and is traded, if Burke could buy low on Luongo now (i.e. Komisarek + a mid round pick + mid level prospect) why wouldn't he do it if he could improve the Leafs goalie situation now and possibly trade Luongo down the road (in the next year or two) for more than he originally traded away at the deadline (i.e. a 1st rounder + or solid prospect etc.) or off-season without the restrictions of a NTC? - As_I_See_It
I don't believe this is correct (but not positive).
But a quick check of the CBA only touches on if a player has a NTC that doesn't kick in until later in the contract. If that player is traded prior to the NTC kicking in, the new team doesn't have to honour it (as per 11.8 (a) of the CBA).
Bobby Lu's NTC has already kicked in, so I believe it would travel with him should he become a Maple Leaf.
Morning, everyone. |

There may be a middling prospect so that Gillis can save some face, but there won't be anything of real value.
There is no market for Luongo. |
