Think about this...
If Luongo's NTC doesn't travel with him if he waives it and is traded, if Burke could buy low on Luongo now (i.e. Komisarek + a mid round pick + mid level prospect) why wouldn't he do it if he could improve the Leafs goalie situation now and possibly trade Luongo down the road (in the next year or two) for more than he originally traded away at the deadline (i.e. a 1st rounder + or solid prospect etc.) or off-season without the restrictions of a NTC? - As_I_See_It
oh yes in a few years i would assume so, but not in the same year... im sure he has maybe taken this into consideration |

hahah imagine getzlaf and perry were to come to toronto, that would be something else.... I can only imagine what would be going the other way though, since burke wont leave his old team empty handed. What would the price be to acquire both getz and perry though is the question.
1st Rounder 2012, Colborne, Franson, Biggs, Percy, kulemin, mac, ashton, holzer, 1st Rounder 2013 for perry and getzlaf, prob add in justin schultz right as well haha.
Kessel Getzlaf Perry
Lupul Grabo Kadri
Frattin Bozak Ross
Brown Steckel Crabbs
Gunner Phaneuf
Gardiner Schultz
Liles Schenn
Luongo
Reimer *** with trading for luongo |

Hmmmm... You're probably right.
I'm so on the fence with Luongo. There are just too many pros and cons to the entire situation. I could totally see Luongo working out for 5/6 years, but at the same time I could see it blowing up on our faces. |

So Kulemin, MacArthur, Franson, two 1st rounders, Armstrong, Komisarek, a 2nd rounder and the entire Toronto Marlies for Ryan, Getzlaf, Perry, Schultz, Parros and Luongo?
Sounds good. Pull the trigger. |

By the end of this all i really see luongo and justin schultz coming to toronto, with the leafs moving up in the draft to acquire galchenyuk.
1) 2nd Rounder 2012, Damigo, Mueller, Komisarek for Luongo
2) Sign Justin Schultz
3) 1st Rounder 2012 + Scrivens + Franson for Columbus 1st Rounder 2012
Thus:
Kessel ______ Lupul
Kadri Grabo Mac
Frattin Bozak Kul
Brown Stecks Crabbs
Gunner Phaneuf
Gardiner Schultz
Liles Schenn
Luongo
Reimer

Red Wings need to replace Lidstrom (Suter) and probably want to take a run at Parise too. Howard's good enough for Red Wings hockey. |

you're bang on about everything.. but the market will really dictate what happens.
i guarantee gillis is feeling zero pressure to deal one of em. schneider is RFA. luongo is signed forever. he has nothing but time.
luongo will probably be traded in the end, but it certainly won't be for the salary + soup can everyone would have you believe it would be. gillis will tell everyone to (frank) off until someone ponies up something of significance. - joel878
Dude, you are very narrow mind in your thinking. You fail to address the big picture.
Read my lips
GILLIS HAS TO TRADE ONE OF THE TWO GOALIES!!!!!!!!!!!!
Get it??

Yeah, I'm not sure why he doesn't quite get this: if you don't move Lou, Schneider walks after a year (if he's not offer sheeted); long-term and short-term, that really hurts you because your goalie of the future is gone and you now have no cap room to take it to the next level with needed grit and secondary scoring (and maybe a stud D like Suter); making the playoffs again is not going to cut it for Vancouver.
Obviously Gillis is going to try to maximize his return, but there's no way (and every hockey analyst agrees) that he doesn't have to take salary back too. |

I agree........ and when you finally break it all down, there is only ONE team that Luongo will go to. The Leafs. Burke knows it, Gillis knows it (Hates the fact).
The only question that remains is the garbage that is going the other way. |

Because luongo wouldnt want to go there and his list is shortened since florida has 2 goalies set, tampa said no, chicago would be a bad idea as hell since it will make them super good super fast instant cup finals surely again, and leaving the leafs last. - Mapleleafs_91
Some of you guys just make stuff up so it is easier to believe what you want to believe. Florida is letting Clemmenson walk. They have an opening for a starting goalie. Roberto never wanted to leave S. Florida. He would love to come back. Florida has the deepest prospect pool of any team in the NHL. They are also a playoff team that will be even stronger next year. So, now you tell me where you think Roberto wants to end up.

... But does Luongo's NTC travel with him once he's waived it? If not, theoretically if the Leafs could trade for Luongo while he's at it's lowest value, couldn't the Leafs trade him at the trade deadline if the chose to? - As_I_See_It
I believe your understanding is correct. Once a no trade contract has been waived by the player, the no trade condition does not apply in regard to a subsequent trade. You don't waive the contract to allow a trade to a specific team. The players agrees to remove the no trade condition from the contract. |

Redwings have got a boatload of capspace, and not everybody in RedWings organisation agrees on Howard to be the guy in the net for the coming 5 years..
So Luongo is definitely not a remote possibility (neither is Thomas). |

Again that is just bunk. It is about what you want to believe. Look at what Tallon brought in last year. We are told the improvement will continue this year. Roberto is coming home.
