well.. in all fairness. i think luongo will get more than the komisarek + coffee that everyone is saying he'll go for. gillis is no dummy. which just adds to the list of reasons i think the leafs need to stay the (frank) away from that disaster.

hope if we end up with any kind of stop gap.. it's harding. probably the best option out there that won't require assets given away. but at some point, this middle tier cluster the leafs are developing will have to be turned into something. depth is great, but it can be used for something more beneficial in a rebuild. if we wait, i'm happy with biron to.. as long as he can handle 40+ games, after sitting for a couple years behind lundqvist.

- joel878

Biron will be 35 in Aug which funny enough isn't that much older than Luongo

He played 50-70 games for 2 years with the flyers and put up some really respectable numbers. 918 and 915 save percentage. Lil bit of a drop off this year but still a good goals against.

I think as a 2 year option, he would be a good fit along with possibly Harding as you said. Both would be on the cheap side too.

Realistically Gillis probably will get more but I think he should get Richard all for making such a ridiculous deal to a early 30's tender who hasn't won a cup. If he does get more I just hope it isn't at our expense........

you're bang on about everything.. but the market will really dictate what happens.

i guarantee gillis is feeling zero pressure to deal one of em. schneider is RFA. luongo is signed forever. he has nothing but time.

luongo will probably be traded in the end, but it certainly won't be for the salary + soup can everyone would have you believe it would be. gillis will tell everyone to (frank) off until someone ponies up something of significance.

- joel878

You're right that Luongo won't be dealt for a snowcone made with Reimer's crease snow, but I'm not so sure Gillis isn't feeling a little pressure given that he has a few big decisions to make that will ultimately determine the direction that the Canuck will be headed in the coming years (The same can be said for Burke). Again, the Canucks window to win is open now, how long that lasts is anyone's guess.

With regards to Gillis "having nothing but time," I beg to differ. Luongo is 33 now, will his value be any higher when he's 34/35/36? Maybe, but unlikely given that age works against every player's performance. Secondly, while Scheinfer is RFA, do you really think that Gillis wants to deal with the possibity of offer sheets which will only force his hand? Lastly, both Lu and Schneider have been patient and professional to this point, how long can that last? If Gillis keeps both this season, he runs the risk of having a goalie controversy on his hands.

Me neither... love pre-draft.. then Canada Day with the free agent openings.. then training camp... throw in the trade deadline... then the rest of the year the Leafs just disappoint...

how often is the euro cup thingy, is it like the world cup where it's only so often?

Why only allow european countries to play, are they afraid Canada will dominate them all?

Did Schenn decline last year or something? How could he be in your bottom pairing?
- sjsharks92

His first year was amazing. Second year told to bulk up and he did - 6'2, 235lbs. Third year told to focus on offence. Fourth year written off by Willy. Last year he played victim to Gardiner's offensive rise. Schenn was losing his confidence and him being left alone to defend made things progressively worse.

He needs to play his game - shutdown, bone crushing dman. We haven't seen that since his first year.

And the reason he would be in our bottom pairing is because we have too much depth. Trading for Phaneuf was a very stupid idea unless we are trading him away soon for more offensive assets.

Euro cup is every 4 years, as is the world cup.. they alternate every 2 years, so in 2014 it will be the world cup

I think the headliner will be Nash being traded. Hopefully not to San Jose for a package involving Pavs or Couture.

I think we'll also see a lot more trading of picks too.

Burke seems to have a boner for him though, giving him the C almost immediately.

I'd agree though, you guys should never have gotten Phaneuf and trading him ASAP would seem to make sense.
