Like a playoff birth?

At least we didn't build our team around twin girls and a very sensative goalie.

agreed.

i'd put it more as whenever the opportunity presents itself. if it has to wait, it has to wait. the prices of goalies seem to shift so wildly though, if it could be done reasonably now, making something out of the stock pile of middle tier talent the leafs have, good call.

i don't really like going with the scrivens reimer combo at all, if it had to be done, i would live with it. but i hate it, think the team needs to make the effort to improve the combo in a reasonable fashion, if anything, just to help improve the developmental environment on the big club for the kids. getting annihialated on a nightly basis, isn't going to cozy them up to the nhl level, and really let them improve their games. but again, if it we're to happen. i'd live with it.

at the end of the day, i just hope the burke doesn't (frank) anything up. trading for luongo would be (frank)ing something up. he's far better suited for a team like chicago.

It reminds me of what Rick Dudley said before leaving Toronto about having a veteran goalie who stops 92 percent of their shots. It plays into the teams mindset and gives them an overall more positive attitude to know that they have the confidence if they make a mistake their goalie will back them up. THe leafs haven't had that in 6 or 7 years and it would be a huge boost to the teams pysche to have a goalie like that. I would also love that.

If a goalie can be had at a reasonable price, I would pull the trigger too. But if we're talking about giving up Schenn or Gardiner or Gunnerson for a goalie........I'd say no before we find out more on what we have in Scrivens or Reimer because we may end up getting a goalie who is no better than Scrivy or Reims or even worse in the long run and than we gave up a blue chip prospect for nothing. That is my fear.

If we can get a solid goalie for a combination of Franson and reasonable picks and is what you said a 25-27 year old good caliber goalie, I'm game

I believe he will be 27 at the start of next season. Sharks signed him to an extentsion before he even played a game with us.

Wow, long term extension? He'll be an excellent role model for when the youngsters start coming in from that inevitable rebuild.

I think the fact that we're now the only realistic suitor for Lu means that for Gillis,, it's either take what you can get for Lu, or suit him up in VAN next year. That's something I really think he doesn't want to do.

I say we land him for:

Kadri
Komi
35th

Considering what VAN gave up to get Lu in the first place they can't complain

I just think of how much more confidence guys like Schenn would have if they weren't afraid to make mistakes because they know a goalie is there who can bail them out

yeah, we are definitely on the same page.

i would part with the macarthur, kulemin, types all day in a deal for the right tender. i'd part with gunnar before franson to. we can afford to part with some d'amigo type prospects to. i'm not parting with gardiner for pretty much anything, and i still hold schenn close to the same boat.

the right combination, along with some draft picks that aren't first rounders, can probably become quite appealing to some teams. waiting is feasable.. but if we can make smart moves when opportunity presents itself, and maintain the group of higher end youngsters, and keep drafting in the first round, the team is heading in the right direction.

I would actually really like to keep both Gunnar and Franson

If Komi is shown the door this summer, then we have a defence that is actually respectable, and will improve immensely with a consistent tender.

Gardiner - Dion
Liles - Schenn
Gunnarsson - Franson

We have enough depth that in case of injury we can summon valuable replacements. Plus there's the realistic possibility that Schultz joins the Marlies for next season

I still think that's overpayment and I wouldn't do it. I'd seek other options. We are basically giving up on Scrivens and Reimer's develop for the next 5 years putting Luongo in the net and than when he's ready to retire and our team is supposedly ready to compete, we are without a goalie.
