...this is mostly a true statement and even then it would tough to swallow, worth it but tough. He is looking like he will be one of those guys that can rally a team and lead them into battle. Just as happy putting a guy through the end boards as he is scoring. We've needed a big winger like him that plays big for a long time.

Agreed... Foligno is gonna be our Lucic.. he is a guy that can pot 20+ goals, beat ppl with his big body delivering checks, and also win a fight..

I love thins young guys potential..

I went bck n fixed it.. you get the 1st rounder from us.. n downie is an rfa after this year and mcginn is a free agent free to walk away...

Roy has a higher ppg avg then stastny n vanek has a higher ppg then stastny too.. vanek will replace hejduk in the top 6 n roy will be a 3rd liner with the younger guys..

Sekera is getting better n better n is a solid cheap top 4 guy who could be paired with johnson.

We have enough defenders.. and we tried that already with Hejda.. Hell if we keep Wilson we will have a cheaper better option than Sekera. Like I said we don't need him he holds ZERO value to us with an already log jammed defense.

I don't know where you are getting your info but Downie & McGinn are RFAs right now.. They will be locked up for however many years Colorado deems worthy from this point forward.

ROY ONLY HAS A YEAR LEFT ON HIS CONTRACT..

Do you really think Roy is going to stick around after that year if he is being used as a 3rd line center? Or if he is given more ice time and we roll three scoring lines then he is going to want a HELL of a lot more than 4M with ZERO loyalty to the organization after only one year he can hit the market and cash in. Leaving Colorado left with another hole to fill..

Roy also being 29 does not fit in with a young rebuilding team.

Not this season, He had his concussion and missed a good chunk of time. Would rather see him be healthy and get major ice time down on the farm then bring him up now and fight for bottom pairing minutes, too many contracts in front of him.

He was out two weeks with concussion symptoms. Wasn't actually a concussion. One more year in the dub, one more at the AHL if necessary then try to bring him up.

So I guess the consesus is "no."

Best summation on why the Leafs want to trade for him.

How about a straight up Phaneuf for Stastny? Both 27 this year, both make have a cap hit of 6.5/6.6 million. Both in the top 10-15 stars at their positions. Both have leadership skills but aren't necessary leaders. Both contracts end after the 2013-2014 season.

Or Schenn for Duchene. 21/22 year olds with a ton of potential but could use new starts.

I would do both. If the Leafs are confident about Schultz, Franson and Holzer, it would be smart to trade Phaneuf at peak contractual value, and it's okay to trade Luke if you're getting Duchene.

Maybe Matt Carle (although free agency could run his price up to 4.5-5M) should Burke explore that option, or moving down in the draft and grabbing Trouba to solve any defensive depth issues.

Phaneuf and Schenn are junk, there is no one on the Leafs that you could trade to get either, well maybe kessel and i wouldnt make a trade for kessel.

Scraps? Roy had been a consistent 60+ point player for five years before this year and all of a sudden he's scrap? If I may remind you, your boy Paul Stastny didn't have such a fine year himself. Sekera is a good two-way 3/4 pairing defenseman who would definitely help address one of the Avs' current organizational weaknesses. The only reason the first is included is because Buffalo seems desperate for a legitimate (and natural) 1st line center.

Sorry, but I hate when people base a player's value off a single up or down year. The point I'd like to get across is that both Stastny and Roy are highly skilled forwards who had down years. Neither should have value detractedfrom them considering their past performances. I think that's one of those deals where both teams can win their respective parts of the deal. Besides, you could always trade Roy off to a team like Dallas or Anaheim that severely lacks center depth
