I'm not sure you guys took that much of a risk on Carter. But I have a verrrrrry low opinion of Jack Johnson, and that 1st is going to be 20th overall or lower.
Granted, I wouldn't expect Lindback to outplay Rinne, or even necessarily Markstrom (who is a very good prospect). But if you're statistically well behind any of your teammates (or at least a little behind much younger ones), it suggests that you probably aren't on your way to an elite career. Maybe an average career, maybe better than average, but probably not elite.
Like I said, Lindback may turn out to be a competent 1A/1B, but I would be surprised if he's ever considered one of the 10-15 best goalies in the league. But like I said, stranger things have happened. And Tampa needed at least one goalie that was better than AHL-caliber. - Sven22
He's technically moving at a faster pace then Rinne, and they are comparable in a number of ways. |

You're right Ek...it's not the only goalie move the Bolts will make. They already signed Helenius (former 1st round pick playing in Europe). So Bolts now have 4 young goaltenders between Tokarski, Janus, Lindback, and Helenius.
As a Bolts fan I am a little surprised by the price but only a little. The market was set for young goaltenders last year in the Varlamov deal to the Aves. Lindback has less experience but we also didn't give up a top 10 pick for him. - uf1910
Don't know why so many think it was overpayment, given the lack of success 2nd round picks in the NHL draft history have had. The Hockey News had a great article on it a couple of years ago which demonstrated that 2nd round picks rarely become anything worthwhile. |

Well hopefully this means the Lightning are out of the Vasilevski and Subban race but I doubt it. Oilers could use a goalie. But even if they're both taken before the 32nd overall pick Dansk will probably still be there. |

I think Stoll could be pretty easily replaced since he's a third liner but it's hard to find a big guy like Penner so I hope he resigns. Bernier could be something of value to a team like Toronto, Columbus, Islanders, or maybe even Calgary, Chicago, Minnesota, Edmonton or New Jersey? |

Well, I will always remember the team the way it is, call it a sentimental thing. |

I have a low opinion of Johnson to. But Carter is def still a risk moving forward. Injuries and production. Just saying though. You gotta take risks. Or here is one for you then. Two firsts for Penner. Did nothing for us until the playoffs. Risk and reward - poisondhearts37
I hear you. Anybody locked up for more than a few years is a risk; a guy locked up for the next 10 years through age 37 even more so. No matter who he is.
And it wouldn't surprise me in the least if Carter's cap hit (assuming the cap rules are the same by the end of his deal, which is a very sketchy assumption at best) looks awful at some point during the course of his contract. I fully expect to be cringing at Zetterberg's contract myself by about 2017, if not sooner.
Still, proven scorer at a currently-reasonable cap hit for the next 10 full seasons VS overpaid, awful-at-5-on-5 black hole defenseman unlikely to get much better for the next 6 full seasons is still a pretty easy call, at least to me. A 10-year deal on a currently pretty good player through age 37 is almost always going to work out better in the end than a 6-year deal on a guy virtually guaranteed to be terrible for the entire duration of the contract -- even if Carter is a fourth-liner by year 7. |

No one will believe it now until next season, but it was 180° from an overpayment. Nashville was very much shorted in compensation unless they get an eventual star from those picks. Lindback had an average year because he got one game a month this year. I'm not sure he even got two games in a row. Two seasons ago he was in for Rinne for a couple of extended stretches and was stellar. He will be elite with extended playing time. Watch and see. |

Fair point.
Still, I'm not sure that I would expect Lindback to continue to progress the way Rinne did. It's certainly possible, but I don't think it's particularly likely. |

People saying this is an overpayment are wrong. This is a long term deal. If Lindback ends up playing like a number 1, this deal could end up being a steal. - mochoson
Well that's just it, no one knows if it's an overpayment or not. Only time will tell, for realz.

we had 4 2nds already this year and the 3rd is 2013. yea we also got kyle wilson and a 7th.
we WILL make another trade with our goalies cuz we have 5 now. lindback, garon, tokarski, helenius, and janus. my bet is we trade garon to get back a 3rd rounder and then have helenius and lindback as our goalies this season.
2 2nds for a potential no. 1 for years is fine with me. we will fix our D at the draft and on july 1. and we have a ton of prospects on the norfolk calder cup team that will make a run for a spot on our team.
look for the bolts to win the SE this yr. |
