Where was this on the rumour chart? This seems quite random and out of the blue.

I am skeptical of Lindback. Not necessarily pessimistic, mind you, but skeptical.

Not much of an NHL track record (only 857 shots against -- basically half a season for a typical starter). In that limited sample, his numbers are a little above average, but it's hard to draw any hard conclusions from such a small amount of data. He was outplayed by Rinne in Nashville. He seemed to be outplayed by Markstrom (two years younger) for Byrnas IF.

I could see him totally flaming out. I could see him as a career backup. I could see him being a competent-yet-unremarkable starting goaltender for a handful of seasons. I have a hard time seeing him being any better than that, though stranger things have happened.

I suppose it's not too much risk on Tampa's end -- all a lot of lower-end picks and a 31-year-old No. 3 goalie. It's probably still an overpayment, but Tampa had to be desperate for NHL-quality goaltending. I would guess they'll try to find another keeper in free agency.

Markstrom is supposed to be really good though. Rinne is a Vezna quality goalie. Its a risk worth taking though. We took a huge risk on Carter. He managed to get some goals that were needed. But its hard to compare him to two other goalies that are better. Well Markstrom hasnt made it yet. But he is supposed to be really good.

Well done, sir. I would've loved to have said that myself, but was fearful I'd have to get the usual Sharks fan treatment. Especially now that even the Kings have a cup before us

If there was potential to lose Kopi in free agency and every other fan was telling you your going to lose him. You would start to get upset or bitter to. Or defend the team and say he wants to be with your team or he is gonna resign.

Everyone knows there is a chance he doesnt go back to NJ. Get over it.

Thats why I said the quote "It doesnt always work out for organizations"

I always know for the potential player loss, NJ doesnt understand this though.

I'm not sure you guys took that much of a risk on Carter. But I have a verrrrrry low opinion of Jack Johnson, and that 1st is going to be 20th overall or lower.

Granted, I wouldn't expect Lindback to outplay Rinne, or even necessarily Markstrom (who is a very good prospect). But if you're statistically well behind any of your teammates (or at least a little behind much younger ones), it suggests that you probably aren't on your way to an elite career. Maybe an average career, maybe better than average, but probably not elite.

Like I said, Lindback may turn out to be a competent 1A/1B, but I would be surprised if he's ever considered one of the 10-15 best goalies in the league. But like I said, stranger things have happened. And Tampa needed at least one goalie that was better than AHL-caliber.

I have a low opinion of Johnson to. But Carter is def still a risk moving forward. Injuries and production. Just saying though. You gotta take risks. Or here is one for you then. Two firsts for Penner. Did nothing for us until the playoffs. Risk and reward
