I agree. Time to move on

Perhaps some of the other intelligent posters can handicap the top 4 d-man available to us with their odds that we get him

Can we expect Simmonds to improve next year offensively and defensively? While his defensive game could use some work, was last year close to Simmonds top potential? Seems like he has a nose for the net if he can simplify his game a bit. The second half of the year he seemed to be forcing a lot of chances.
- funmaster18

pretty sure last year was wayne's peak. he could be consistently around 22-25 per year, but not flirting with 30 yearly, imo. depends on how much pp time he gets, too. 11 ppgs last year. not sure you can expect that consistently.

not sure about his defense. he played in a pretty defensive role with LA, but I wasn't too impressed with his play away from the puck aside from throwing his weight around.

How so?

I believe I expressed my humble opinion on this in a earlier post. I also believe there is a difference between puck battles and forechecking. Actually a big difference, although they can be related.

i'm not sure Daman...i'm one to say add someone to the mix with the d-man but Parise sounds very enticing or even Nash...
w/o giving up too much that would really put them in a nice position...

i would even go the route to not do too much because i would like to see this group grow another year

they need Shelley....popcorn

I agree with you that we've likely seen his offensive peak. If he can flirt with 29-30 goals a year that would be great, but at 20-25 it's not disappointing. I just think f his
Offensive game is near his potential already, then I'd like to see him improve defensively and all around his play from the puck. Sometimes what you do away from the play ends up being more important.

I actually hope they keep Shelley. Nice family (I know, not hockey related)

I wont get any true answers to my reponse. I realize that. Many here want to argue with me, but if they answer the question directly they may realize i was right.

I better call it a day as I feel I am close to getting banned again.

Stay the course...you won't get banned. Don't feed into it...

sure we can go for Weber, Suter is not coming to Philly...
Enstrom is nice but will he fit into the system?

I really feel Homer may have a blockbuster involving JVR. Him and his family don't seem to be on the same page since they drafted him. it's only my opinion.

Another one of his best assets is the SO...just kidding. It is his willingness to stand up for his teammates. You can't have enough "team toughness" IMHO. I would not like to see him traded, we are lacking some of the toughness without him. Yes, Hartnell, Schenn, Talbot, and Rinaldo can bring it but that isn't enough for my liking. Simmonds is a quality player at a good cap hit for the Flyers. I do think he overachieved in his offensive production and do not expect that area of his game to grow. His D game, I hope so.
- coffee junkie

I agree. He's never going to be a big point producer because he's never going to rack up a lot of assists. But I see no reason why he can't continue to score in the 25 goal range. As well as bring the physical game. And I agree totally about standing up for his teammates.

how is he not?
- phi1671

Because Simmonds wins a lot of puck battles. A lot more then he loses. And is a strong player on the puck.

A large part of the forecheck is winning battles and races for the puck. In fact it's the key to it.

Why wouldn't Enstrom fit into our system? Seems perfectly suited for him actually.

I'm not especially optimistic that his defensive game will improve, tbh. He's already a hard worker, so it's not like he just needs to up the effort. I'm not sure he has a natural feel for where to be away from the puck and similarly not sure you can really teach that.

LS88, i'm going on with the theme of bills blob....
I never said he wouldn't fit, I'm questioning will he fit? I'm adding the question. Some people just don't fit into a system as we all like them too but on the flip side a player may be tailored made to fit into Lavvy's system.

It's true that the family and the Flyers front office have never really been on the same page, and they'll try to move him for a big-time blueliner or elite forward IMO.

So if we don't get Parise, Weber, or Nash, then he probably won't move. I'd say it's around 50/50.

Enstrom would be pitch perfect for our PP. A natural replacement for Kimmo.

He would have 60 pt upside with the Flyers support cast too IMO.

I really like the idea of acquiring him if we can't re-sign Carle for under market value.

Despite what others feel on this board, if we can get him for JvR, Bob, and a mid-round pick, then I do that in a flash.

Do you want Nash here?

Unless Bryz is going the other way (only because of his cap hit, I would like to see Bryz in net again next season) that seems like cap suicide to me. Let the Rags trade their future for him or SJ.

Considering the cap is going up to $70.3 million, it wouldn't be.

If he reaches his full potential next to Giroux, you're talking about a guy who could compete for the Richard trophy year in and year out.

He's already got 1 playing with no names.

who would you rather have

parise OR nash OR weber OR enstrom

can only pick one

not asking about deals being made and people being traded...just seeing who you would choose.

Parise and Weber. No question.

I read that wrong. Weber.
