Loved the Blog like always. The only voice of hockey and reason that I trust.

Based on the excellent "other blue line is always bluer theory" (OBLIAB), I realize that I really do personally lack the ability to evaluate potential good D man trades. I esentially, rely on peoples opinion I respect namely Bill and also the likes of MJL, Jasq and Crimsoninja to weigh out options. For now, I am hoping for the best at July 1 approaches.

I would stick with Bill and take the approach of reading more material then follow the common opinions of others...

Enough half-baked philosophizing, what is your plan for the D (obviously not know all the ins and outs of the assets needed to obtain said players).

I said yestereday and stand by it:
1. J Shultz (cap low and cost no assets)
2. Weber (if the price is reasonable- yes it would be very step)
3. Wideman (right handed for Goodness Sakes and costs no assets!)

I would say Wideman seems like the most likely. Any thoughts on how much he will get in UFA market?

I agree with #1 & #2.

Schultz is the guy to target imo. He will cost less money and provide a right handed defenseman. He will have his up's and down's but he is better than our current 6-8 imo. I willing to be patient with a young prospect like Shultz than with a veteran who's making big money. Adding Schultz still allows this team to stay intact without killing your cap space. If Schultz were to struggle the Flyers will still have flexibility at the deadline to make a move if they choose. I dont think Schultz is the savior or the next Karlsson but hes an upgrade over what we have at a nice price. Weber is a monster and we all know what thats going to cost if available.

i actually think that garrison has a chance to be an impact defender. not elite or norris-caliber, but very good and probably not too pricey.

I wouldn't mind Garrison. Not sure of his asking price. Is he worth more than what Grossmann makes?

imo, absolutely.

edit: i think garrison might get 4 years 16. something like that. if i were him and didn't love my options, i'd sign short-term deal so people can realize how good he is and he can cash in in another year or two.

I agree, Garrison would be my 4th choice. 3rd if he could just play right handed. I mean what a loser! Can't turn his stick around like a man?

So if they sign Garrison for $4M per year (cap hit wise) do you still intend on keeping Carle?

Bill,
THANK YOU!!!!

Ever since we got him, I've been very happy with the game that Matt Carle brings to the team. I feel he continues to get better and it was actually one of Homer's better trades. (we did not have enough ice time for Downie to develop, but needed a top 4 Defensemen and Eminger wasn't it)

Fans have him on their whipping boy lists. I just hope (and am glad) that Homer & Co listen to their own hockey smarts rather than the mob. Last time they listened to the mob we Signed Bryzgalov....
