Nope

Lavy won a cup in Carolina playing like this, (almost his exact words)

Good teams adjust against the opposition a little i guess.

Imagine asking Briere (for example), to play more 2 way, or not to leave the zone too early, (not picking on him per say, but that's an example of the way we play sometimes, and then we blame our defense.

Here's the thing about systems. Regardless of which way you play. If your committed to it, execute it, and play hard behind it. Then it can work. Then things like talent, and ability come into play.

Teams will employ specific players to play for the systems they utilize more than not.
could you see guys like Heatley or Briere play for the Rangers?
Sometimes it works the other way (Kovalchuck), sometimes it doesn't with some of the players you have

I don't see how they can win if they don't make some adjustments.

If guys like Gaborik can, then yea. Listen, Briere has some physical limitations that will prevent him from being a good defensive player. But can he improve? Absolutely. If the Flyers want to win the Cup, he better. Along with the rest of the team. Players have to buy in to it. And committ to it.

I agree

how many teams going into next season will play an attack style after watching & scouting the playoffs? the finals?

They didn't adjust at all to New Jersey, the tighter they played the worse it got

Bryce Salvador??? come on, really? He looked like a $6 million a year player, and he was just a component of a sound structure

Gaborik????
the guy who got benched because he didn't lay down on a shot??

I'm not picking on Briere, he plays our style perfectly, run & gun attack.

The NHL is like any other league it will become a "copycat" league. The Flyers struggled all season against teams who played well defensively. During this offseason it would almost be insane not to make some kind of adjustment.

It's amazing how good a defenseman can look, when he has support from the rest of the players on the ice, isn't. I read it all the time, a defenseman is swarmed by the forecheck. Has no support and no where to go with the puck. And tries to make a play, and it's a turnover. And I'll rad he blows, always turning the puck over. What created the turnover was the lack of structure, the lack of support. Only so much a player can do sometimes. I see it all the time. A defenseman knows where his outlet is supposed to be. So he sends the puck there, and the forward isn't there. Or is late getting there. Boom turnover, and an offensive chance against. Or worse a goal. And as Bill related to, the D man sucks. When in reality, it was a series of breakdowns in the team game that led to the goal.

All I saw in the Cup Finals with LA, was 5 guys, together all over the ice. 5 guys playing as a unit, in position, and executing. Not spread all out, with no continuity, and individual play.

Tony Parker had his eye injured when he was a bystander to a fight in a New York club between rappers Drake and Chris Brown over their ex-girlfriend Rihanna. You couldn't make this stuff up if you tried. Brown and Drake were supposedly talking trash when bottles starting flying and Parker caught some of the shrapnel when pieces of glass from the bottles flew into his eye. "The cornea is affected. I cannot do anything for seven days. Wear a therapeutic contact lens and I get drops. I was lucky, that I almost had to get stitches," Parker added. He should be ok to play for France in the upcoming Olympics.

The worst thing the Flyers could do is to be reactionary. They started to build an identity last year. Shore it up, and stick to it.

I agree. I still see nothing wrong with stressing more defense from your forwards. No reason they can't skate the same way at each end of the ice.

An attack team is molded to go forward more often, remember the 90's when Elias was only scoring like a 2nd line player because of the defensive system he played on?

Wow, Tampa gave up a King's ransom for Lindback. Surely they don't see a 7th round pick with zero NHL resume as their starting goaltender.

Such a waste.

Obviously "Carle Sucks" was the first thing that should have been posted.

Coaching was certainly a big part of it. But the players still have to go out on the ice and do it.

An attack team's primary method of defending is keeping the puck in the offensive end of the ice, and pressuring the other team into turnovers. The old the best defense is a good offense.

No they shouldn't be reactionary. If your reactionary, you never forge your own identity. Your always trying to mirror someone else. And if next year, a different style of play wins then this year?

And to clarify that even further. They should react to the things that they think they need to improve on. And areas or additions they feel they need to add based on their play. Not reactionary to how other team's play.
