They have to spend a lot of money just to get to the floor so why not give it to somebody who likes it here and has already produced here? Just my two cents. I think 5 years might be a bit much as well, they should make it for a year or two less and throw in a couple of more bucks to offset the lost years. - Vukota
Vukota there is no room for logic in the Wolfpack. |

You said that last year, and didn't even come close. And he came into the season "healthy". I hope he never plays another game for the isles. |

I go out for a few hours and miss the JJ signing. Ek also mentions the Isles interested in Olli Jokinen? I'm not sure what to say to all this? - ses111 There is nothing to say because it's eklund. You forget this is the same guy that had marc savard as an e4 to the isles last summer when savard was still dealing with post concussion symptoms. He's an idiot. |

The problem is....do you want to waste the one year that Nilsson and/or Poulin could be learning from Nabokov, instead having DiPsh*t getting splinters in his a** sitting on the bench? That seems like an utter waste of a year they'll never get back. Besides, if HE plays 25 games, they'll lose 13 of them (at least), and that'll be enough to ruin their chances, as usual.
He'd have to prove to me that he can sport a consistent save percentage over 91 before I'd let him anywhere near the net. They can't afford to be down 4-0 after the first period every night; it will kill what little confidence the young players have. The youth on our defense is having a hard enough time learning the ropes without having to try to figure out what the hell he's doing all the time, since he can't seem to bring himself to play goal like a normal goalie.

A one year deal for Jokinen might be ok...a stop gap before Strome takes over...I think they finally see that Neilsen isn't a 2nd line center...he is a very good 3rd line defensive center that chips in some goals. |

If you are asking me what I want, I dont want him on the team at all.. But he will be & he will be the back up, till he gets hurt or Nabby does & he becomes the starter
NO.. if Nabby is starter (and he is) then I want Poulin in BP starting 50 games. Not riding the pine in the NHL and only playing ever 6th game or so.

I can live with Jokinen and he may be the type of FA the Isles can sign. I'm not sure he would take a one year deal though? I like the idea of Frans going to the third line. |

Even if you gave him 2 years at 3 million each wouldn't be so bad...Strome will probably be back in the minors (unless they let under 20's play in the AHL this season) for another year anyway. |

Also, Jokinen will give you some secondary scoring (he had 23 goals). Jokinen-Okposo-Bailey wouldn't be a bad 2nd line. I remember reading he isn't the best in the locker room though... |

I'm all for bringing in better vets to give the kids more time to develop. Isles have to stop rushing some of the kids to the NHL. |

The signing of joensuu just takes away a spot for a younger player like Ullstrom and Cizikas. If your going to go young and sign some quality vets then do it, it's so stupid how they sign these crap players to get to the cap floor and take away playing time for the kids. If they want to build within that's good, but don't waste JT's time with these crap signings. Instead of signing like 4 scrubs for 1 mil a piece, how about he offers a quality player 5 mil per year that will help the team. |

The Hawks blogger here has mentioned a few times now that Hjalmarsson may be on the block. Seems like the type of defensive defenseman the team could use, and he'd make a nice counterpart to Streit. $3.5m for two years left on the contract, so it's not a crippling contract, and two years would be a nice bridge until some of our current defensive D prospects get at least closer to NHL ready. Not sure what they'd be looking for in return, but if it's to free up salary so they could go chase a free agent or two, we could probably make a competitive offer without giving up anything outrageous. For the hundredth time, I'm horrible at making up trade offers and stuff, but it seems like it'd be a good fit for the Isles if the asking price is reasonable. |

If Ullstrom and Cizikas can't take the spot from Joensuu in camp, then they deserve to be in the AHL for another year, imo. It's spelled out in the contract that Joensuu will just go to Europe if he doesn't make the team, so I don't think it's that big of a deal. Like I said, they put in their years developing him, since he's an Isles' draft pick, so there's no real harm in giving it one more go before parting ways.
If they just hand him a spot even if he looks horrible in camp, or this is the only move they make, then yeah, I'll be pretty ticked off. But by itself, I'm not bothered at all. A 6'4 forward...if he finally got the message to use that size to drive to the net, he could be a decent third liner. I do think signing him is a direct challenge to Ullstrom though. That's the man he has to beat for a roster spot. They both should be gunning for the same third-line role. |

How about a mid-tier prospect and 2nd or 3rd round pick? If it seems like I'm low balling it, I'm only doing that to consider the salary dump part on the Hawks part as the reason. |

Not necessarily. If they don't like what they see in camp he can just go back to Europe. |

If only. He's got the size to give and take hits. If only he had a fire lit up under his arse and played more like Matt Martin. |

Jokinen to fill the Parenteau void.
He's actually had a decent career since traded from the Isle.
Those days are probably behind him. |

I went to that site you told me about. Hockey Prospectus. (Good one BTW) They have him ranked 5th overall. There are some reservations but thats natural with all prospects. They have him slightly edging out Dumba mainly because he's a forward. Check it out. |
