He's this big power forward who runs over people and hurts them. Plus, he can score goals.

Luke Schenn is a 5/6 pairing defensive defenseman who could turn into another Ladislav Smid if the Oilers are lucky.

Smid-type defensemen aren't rare. Big scary power forwards who can play functional minutes in your Top 6 are.

- Maxbone

You sure you got the right guy?

5'11"...180#...that is not big...but he is supposed to be very physical.

At his worst yes.

He has proven that he can be much more than that in his third season however.

Stauffer is a Zorch.

If Yakupov isn't drafted #1, the Oilers are (frank)ing morons.

- laughs2907

I'm really thinking they will trade down.

Not sure I agree.... but the right trade put them that much closer to the playoffs.

Why hasn't there been any rumors of the oil going after Nash?
Are they not on his list or something?

Seems to me some blockbuster that gives Columbus Yakupov (while keeping their own pick at #2) in exchange for Nash is a great scenario for both teams.

- B-Wforever

They probably don't want Nash and his horrid contract.

I'll be clear on this: I am completely okay with the Oilers taking a defenseman. But if they do...

1. They better trade down first

2. They better get something ridiculous when they trade down

3. They better be drafting one of Murray, Reinhart or Rielly.

Yeah, but if they don't trade down, and they pass on Yakupov, I'm going to sh1t my pants and mail them to Tambs.

Smith-Pelley has never been a ppg player at any level, most goals he has scored in a season is 36 in the OHL with a stacked Missusaga team. Don't get me wrong, I love Smith-Pelley but to say anything other than he's capable of playing spot duty on the second line if there are injuries is insane.

Why no love for Dumba? I get that he is a risk, but god does he ever have the raw talent to be a #1.

I agree... in any package they take it better have an NHL defenceman, and not drop down anymore than the 8th spot.

I was just talking about the 3 that Richard mentioned. Personally, I'd rank Dumba as the #3 d-man...

Well you better be prepared... why not trade down?

If you can pick up a top 4 defenceman and keep a top 8 pick.... then do it.

I would like to see the Oilers trade spots with Anaheim!!!!

Ah I see. I think he will drop, much like Hamilton did last year. And teams will kick themselves for it.

Eric Staal? It might happen. You never know.

Jordan is more suited to the Oil. NuHop is the #1C of the present and future.

The use of the media to soften the public for a potential deal is a well established practice by all teams. I think a deal with Pittsburgh is probably not in the cards. They are way down in the draft order. But they do have some good puck moving D in their prospect inventory.

Edmonton needs to get their D up to the same standard as their front line skaters.

I would do a deal with the Leafs for the #1 pick if they offered up Gardiner, Franson and the #5. With the #5 I would take Murray. So the Oil would come out of the draft with Gardiner, Franson and Murray. They would have a young D that would complement what they have put in place up front. I think there are other teams in the top 10 draft group that might an even better offer allowing for the Oil to come out of the draft with three good D prospects.

I think Nash fits very nicely into the oil.
Plus it should open up trade opportunities to land solid NHL ready dmen in trade.
(Gagner, Eberle).

- B-Wforever

If I'm running the Oil, Eberle's the last guy I trade. A proven clutch player with one of the most accurate shots in the league. Plus he is extremely intelligent about the game. Almost like a modern day Joe Sakic on the wing. I say he will be the highest scoring player of the current Oilers generation.
