Why hasn't there been any rumors of the oil going after Nash?
Are they not on his list or something?
Seems to me some blockbuster that gives Columbus Yakupov (while keeping their own pick at #2) in exchange for Nash is a great scenario for both teams. |

people can speculate till they are blue in the face, and just dissect it till there's nothing more, but you won't know until he is drafted, and right now, I think hes the best in the draft, and the oilers should shoot first, ask question's later. Canadian teams and the media around them, its very interesting. Most, are under so much pressure to win now, and anything else heads will roll. Most don't realize it does take time, it does not just happen. The sky is not falling. |

Are you for real. If we are going big fish huinting for an established player at the top of the salary world, he had better play D. Everyone is busting the Oil's nut for drafting a winger |

Can anyone link the Gregor articles about not taking D? I tend to agree myself but my searches came up empty on oilersnation. I saw the one where he used the 08 draft but not the past 10 years.
Thanks! |

Tambo said it himself, the oilers arent good enough to be drafting for need yet. Draft the best available player. |

Yeah but this is different.
Nash is a proven veteran superstar already under contract. You draft Yakupov and you need to deal with him contract wise right after Nuge, which is right after hall.
I think Nash fits very nicely into the oil.
Plus it should open up trade opportunities to land solid NHL ready dmen in trade.
(Gagner, Eberle).
Plus the list of ufa's for 4-6 guys is pretty decent, and I think this oil team doesn;t have as much trouble with ufa's. I think a lot of dmen have to see the opportunity
to raise the cup in edmonton over the next 3 years, especially with a veteran like Nash added. |

I agree. The Oil have too many holes and too many unproven players to know what need is. You have to take the consenus #1 pick and hope you finally aren't picking in the bottom 15 before you start trading picks away |

I do it if im EDM. Big fan of Murphy, and you could easily get Faksa at 8. Not a bad deal in my opinion. |

Obviously I would love to have Nash on the Oilers but Yakupov is way cheaper for the next 5 years. Everyone has to get over this dream of drafting Yak and Gally. Ain't going to happen for anyone |

I can't help but love the fact that somebody from the know in edm is talking some sense. is yak a great prospect? hell yes. But not as great as often implyed by this blog. It's got to chaff edm fans that they lucked into the lottery win in a down year. Hey... love the oilers, my favorite west team... but if they don't consider trading down (with legitimate expectations) to draft a d-man and get a asset in return, then they might end up hurting the oilers. trading with montreal for another top d prospect or a decent d-man (not subban... again, realism) would be a good move (for example). what frustrates me about these blogs sometimes is that if oilers management thought along the same lines, they could blow a great opportunity to really round out their team this June. that would be a shame |

I would sooner take a rookie hotshot winger in Edmonton-one area that we have depth at. If we take a dman he will be under so much pressure to be the saviour of our D that he will be doomed to fail. Trade for an established top 4 and continue taking a d man with our second pick-which is only two spots off LA's first pick |

I sure hope so. And you need 4 wingers in your top six but only two centers |

Smith Pelley and the 6th, and yes it would. I'd take Smith Pelley over Luke Schenn. - Maxbone
Please explain what makes Smith Pelley more valuable? |

He's this big power forward who runs over people and hurts them. Plus, he can score goals.
Luke Schenn is a 5/6 pairing defensive defenseman who could turn into another Ladislav Smid if the Oilers are lucky.
Smid-type defensemen aren't rare. Big scary power forwards who can play functional minutes in your Top 6 are. |

I am curious about this kid also...has 3rd line tweener potential (is 3rd line material but may be able to play spot duty if called upon to play top 6 time)...
we have a bunch of guys in the system that have that potential... |

If Yakupov isn't drafted #1, the Oilers are (frank)ing morons. |
