I like to see EDM snag Markstrom from FLA. I'd offer Omark & one of Roy or Bunz to FLA for Markstrom. If that don't work, I'd consider Hemsky to FLA for Markstrom. |

No offence, but I don't think Hemsky PLUS Omark and Roy/Bunz gets Markstrom. He's the most highly regarded goalie prospect in the world. |

Amazing how much Oiler fans overvalue their assets. |

I was reading on CDC and some guy was getting roasted for saying that Luongo won't get the Canucks Gardiner and the 5th.....
Everybody overvalues their assets, especially in big markets. The media hype really helps with that. |

Miller and Roy.....
For.....
Markstrom and Huberdeau.....
That's A LOT of young talent for u guys to give up,
But if you're looking to win NOW.....
We've seen time after time that u aren't going to win the cup without a top goalie, and miller can certainly be that guy
Roy had a down year, but he's been a very consistent 60-70point guy for the most part and would give u guys a solid 1-2 punch with Weiss
Obviously, this trade could suck for u in 5 years...
But it's also possible one or even both of your prospect turn out to be nothing more than average NHLers
What do u think Panther fans?
Deal or no deal? |

Agreed. I'll admit that the Canucks fan base is one of the worst offenders. We also seem to have the most panicky fans. Kind of gets annoying to deal with, and it doesn't help when some of Esplen's own comments/proposals are ridiculous.
I'm not expecting much more than a 2nd and a roster player(likely a salary dump) and maybe decent prospect for Lu. The market isn't high for him so you can't expect much.
I wouldn't be surprised if we enter the season with both goalies.
Anyways, back on topic....
I agree with Michael that giving Markstrom another year in the AHL won't hurt, if anything it's going to help his development. Goalies and D-Men especially should never be rushed or thrown into a situation that they might not be ready for. Florida should stick with a veteran tandem for one more season or even bring him up mid-season instead. |

I agree he doesnt have to be on the opening night roster. Lets be honest either goalie is probably going to get hurt at some point or if theodore play terrible you can bring him up. Why the rush? |

No deal markstrom is going to be a monster. Miller is great and I like him but I think markstrom can be better he has great skill and he is huge! And I think huberdeau will be an all star he may or may not pan out but I wouldn't trade him for nothing!

All this fun "chit-chat" trading that involves Huberdeau is pointless. In Tallon's world, I think he's basically untouchable. |

I can respect that. I am just basing on the blog how Dan stated his numbers are so so based on his current value. he's played a total of 8 NHL games with GAA over 2.66. Cullen on TSN stated Florida needs 3 top six forwards, 1 top four d-man, and back up G. If EDM can get him by paying more, sure.
Amazing how much Oiler fans overvalue their assets. - Nucker101
I don't hold back on bashing and flaming out VAN fans too on their overvaluing of their prospects or assets. Every fan wants their team to sell high and buy low. I'd take Markstrom over Lack anyday.

Hall not going anywhere near OTT. O'Brien, Winchester/Konopka, and Carkner vs Hemsky, Omark, Roy/Bunz...I'll settle for the EDM group. I do like Konopka, I'll give OTT Omark for Konopka, actually...Horcoff & Bulin for Konopka.

Huberdeau isn't "basically" anything... HE IS NOT touchable. Period. No. Go away. Huberdeau, Howden, Petrovic, Bjugstad, Markstrom... not going anywhere for a long time. Draft your own talent. We don't want to win NOW, we want to win for a long time. You need a poll of proespects in order to do it, and we finally have it. Do we have some young guys to dangle? Yes. But it's no one above.
As for the Markstrom situation, I'm 50/50. Part of me wouldn't mind playing him to get Clem's money off the books... but the other part of me understand keeping him in the AHL. We can't afford to make him angry, though. The only other quality goaltender prospect we have besides Markstrom is Brittain, and he's years away. |

FLA can soon pick another in the upcoming draft. Three goalies could be up for grabs in the top 35 picks. |

I think you are overanalyzing and complicating things.
He is a RFA and he is not going to go anywhere, nor will teams make a qualifying offer for him.
I still think he could be trade bait, though.
But, who knows if Clemmer will re-sign. It's possible that the Panthers want Markstrom to also earn his position, not leave the chair clean and unseated.
As for Ellerby. There are a lot of close friends in the NHL, but business is business. Messier did not go AWOL when Gretzky was traded.
I think Markstrom should get another full year. I am sure he will get called up due to an injury at some point. But, the opportunity for him to outplay Clemmensen, or whoever else is signed, is there. It's up to him to earn it.
We'll see in training camp and pre-season. - HTRmikster
As you know this is more of a talking point. However, to assume a team wouldn't make a qualifying offer for him if they think he is ready is inaccurate in my opinion. I'm all for him earning his spot. Gretzky and Messier were veterans by the time that trade happened. Markstrom and Ellerby are kids, so it was just worth mentioning. I don't think that would severely affect any contract/starting situation, but again I thought it was worth mentioning. Thanks for reading, as always. |

I am as excited for the future as anyone, but some of those names have been thrown around in the mill for some big name players out there by the Panthers, so they are not all untouchable. Many of those guys look like the real deal, but you just never know in the NHL, plenty of 1st round picks never pan out and plenty of late round or undrafted picks turn into stars. If the Cats can get something proven with remaining big upside for some of the kids, I'd say go for it. But Huberdeau and Markstrom's names have never been included in any offers I have heard of, they are here to stay. |

I know. I think you can pencil in Petrovic as a keeper as well. But Howden and Bjugstad have been mentioned. Howden's concussion history is already 4 pages long. We have Robak, Shore, Trocheck, etc.. coming up. I'm not worried. |
