He did. During the WJC. That's ok. I'd prefer people like him not to be in my city anyway.

I KNOW not what you meant, but your comment reminded me of this guy

that's one of the problems with team building, especially when it comes to free agency...other cities offer much more than buffalo
- b0s0o1

Yet so many former players live here. Go figure. You can't appreciate it if you haven't experienced it.

Easy, easy. All they really did sign some UFAs and make the Nash trade. There have been worse propositions made around here

because darcy was an idiot and said straight up that he would match anything.. no team wants to lose that many 1st rounders on one player with that high of a salary.
- SabresFaninIndiana

I really don't think that played as big a factor into it as people say. In order to poach an RFA worth anything, you were going to have to offer a contract he wouldn't refuse, and that his current team would be tempted to walk away from. The RFA himself also has to agree to the deal as well. Vanek's agent, at the time, came out and said they were waiting for an offersheet, and weren't negotiating with the Sabres. Maybe Regier "keeping his mouth shut" may have been the difference of about 500k in cap room, but the reality was, if the Oilers really wanted Vanek, they were going to shell out that sort of deal no matter what Darcy Regier said or didn't say. If Edmonton had offered something like a $5 million per year deal, Buffalo would have matched that in a second. Everybody could see that. They didn't need Darcy Regier to tell them.

I would also think they had to add some extra money to the deal as well because as much as people say they wouldn't want to play in Buffalo, more people seem to say they wouldn't want to go to Edmonton.

Emerson Etem is their prime offensive prospect.
- Gunner Staal

Wasn't impressed with him this past World Juniors. Maybe his comments about Buffalo still rub me the wrong way (although, I never really took offense to it), but I can't shake the label of "punk" from him. That, and he was one of the key elements of one of the worst performances in recent memory for the World Juniors, made me equate him to Derek Roy.

Honestly, I don't know that I would say that. They're different style players and both are going to have great careers. I loved that WJC team they played on. It was fantastic.
- HonkFortheGoose

Their only flaw....holding on to leads. They were a lot of fun to watch, but I wouldn't recommend them to anyone with a heart condition.

Agreed. That team seriously underachieved. I did like what Coyle did though. And if I'm not mistaken, he played part of that tourney with the flu. 4g, 1a in 6 games.

Agreed. If the Olympic team had figured out a way to win that gold medal game, 2010 would have been one monumental year for USA Hockey.

I wanted the Sabres to draft Jack Campbell that year so bad. He didn't even make it to us. Stupid Dallas.

I thought Campbell was a better story than a goalie. He had his moments, but the team game in front of him made him look better than he is, IMO.

I don't think he's done much of anything since, has he?

I tend to agree, but given the Sabres' lack of depth at the goaltender position, he still would have been a good pick.
