what's so horrible? you the best player and draft pick in the deal. no gm who doesn't want to get fired makes a deal like that.
- flyerscup2011

Kane is an RFA plus the Jets would get good young talent and a pretty good defensemen for their corps if Sekera is involved.

Sekera is signed for another 3 years I believe and both Hainsey and Enstrom are UFAs after this coming year for the Peg. Then they just have Buff, Bogosian, and Stuart left.

no freakin way. g is 10x the play kovalchuk is and much younger. that is downright offensive
- flyerscup2011

well giroux didnt really seem to do much in the 2nd round when he actually went against a D and a goalie who could stop a shot

rfa means they have leverage to re-sign him for fairly cheap. they wouldn't give him up for mike richards, what makes you think they'd give him up without significantly improving their team. sekera is a decent 4/5th dman him included doesn't blow me away at all.

He was still putting up a point a game in that series play with Hartnell whose not even a pure goal scorer and a 40 year old banged up Jagr.

Whats so horrible about that....

Probably throw Sekera or Brennan into the deal too and it would be likely.

- JVince117

the jets can and will sign kane and he is a very very good player, and their 1st is higher than buffalo's and why would the jets want vanek who is overpriced and not as good as kane or as good as kane will be?

its not even a close deal

he is an RFA not UFA so the jets have a bunch of leverage

.... wait..............

Although Kassian and MAG for Hodgson and Sulzer turned out to be pretty lopsided for us.

- JVince117

Not lop sided if Kassian doesn't turn out to be a bust... Hodgson will never be better then a non physical second line center and Sulzer although more useful the MAG was our 8/9 def man that was just going to be let go.

no one on the flyers played particularly well in that series. i think overconfidence and injuries are what hurt the flyers. he was arguably the best player in the league until he got an injured wrist around jan 1. then every team took shots at both of his wrists for the rest of the season. put it this way would the devils trade kovy straight up for g? yes, would the flyers, (frank) no

was that offered?? if so, I never heard that.

Vanek in his career has never gone below 25 goals in a year.. not even his rookie year..

Vanek has had 2 40+ goal years and 2 more 30+ goal years.

I am not saying Vanek is a top talent in the NHL but he is not just a pile of sh!t.. plus his contract expires in 2 years so that big 7.1M salary won't be a forever thing like Kane's deal might be 6-7 years.

kovy was playing with a herniated disk, even missed game 2

if the flyers played a team in the 1st round that decided to play some D and a goalie that could stop a beachball do you really think he would have gotten all of those points? realistically

when he played the devils the only time he was pretty much effective was on the PP

i think kovy has fit in very well in nj. i'm impressed that he changed his free wheeling style to fit what the devs asked him to be. he is worth that cap hit, esp compared to some other players. he is right there in the 2nd tier of nhl players

of coarse he is going to be cheaper right now, wait until he signs his first contract where he could be a UFA, that part is really not comparable
