I don't think a Pavelski or Couture for Nash swap really interests the Sharks. Howson will either have to settle for a different package (involving Niemi, Clowe, Murray, Demers, Bruan and draft picks) or else check out a different team's offer.

Torrey Mitchell is an upcoming UFA and I think unless he's willing to sign for cheap (under $750K) then it is very likely the Sharks will not re-sign him.

We have some on the way but nothing is guaranteed, plus its going to take a few seasons to really get accustomed to the NHL. Currently our defense is mostly a rag-tag group of crap. Hopefully that will get addressed in free agency, but knowing the issues we have with signing guys..we'll probably just end up with a new crop of spare parts. JBo could help bridge the gap a little for our younger guys to take their time. I don't necessarily want him, but for the right deal I'd do it.

seeing as how they are different positions it would mess up both of their depth charts..

Cammallari and Jokinen are both centers in Calgary already so where does that put Staal. Cam can play wing too but he is not nearly as effective.

And another winger to Pit would really mess their chart up too.. When they put Malkin and Crosby together that would put Kennedy as their 2nd line center.. also where do you play neal, Kunitz, Iginla in that cluster with Neal, Kunitz, Dupuis, Sullivan, and Cook all playing LW.

First of all, Jokinen is a UFA, and I would be surprised if the Flames re-sign him.

Second of all, Cammalleri is a natural winger, not a center. He played there a bit last year due to injuries, but that was the only reason.

That leaves the Flames with pretty much the worst crop of centers in the league. They desperately need a guy like Staal. He may not be a number 1 C on every team in the league, but in Calgary he would be, by FAR.

That being said, I don't see a Staal for Iggy trade happening anyway.

Also I would just like to clarify. Is J BO overpaid? Yes. Is he useless? No.

Comparing him to Gomez is stupid. He logs high minutes and is pretty effective. He is a top pairing d-man on the majority of teams in the NHL.

He hasn't had much for offensive numbers here in Calgary, but that's too be expected under the Sutter regime. That all could change this season. We'll see.
