The Flyers farm system still hasn't fully recovered from losing all those picks in the Pronger deal... to go through all that again at this point would be pretty foolhardy from an organizational standpoint, no matter who it would be for.
- Tomahawk

for the hell of it, starting with the Pronger trade, the Flyers have moved 3 first rounders, 3 second rounders, 5 third rounders, 1 fourth rounder, 1 fifth rounder and 1 sixth rounder and have to show:

Grossman, Bryz and Meszaros on the current roster

Add 2 more 1st when they acquire Weber.

Seriously though. Having a farm system is something to consider. Stock up on younger talent and building depth. Who knows maybe even have the flexability to trade some young players for picks/players. The only thing I can say is just because you have a top 5 farm system doesnt mean a thing (no cup guaranteed). Looking at the Flyers current roster of young talent, most of those guys are young like a farm system (Voracek, Giroux, Simmonds, Schenn, Couturier, Wellwood, etc).

remember when the Flyers had the worse year in team history and Snider sat there swearing the Flyers would go back to their grassroots and keep their young players and picks? that lasted, what? One year? I really would like to see them stay with this core and keep their picks moving forward.

I think it means they are electing to seek a decrease in his next salary rather then a merit increase in his salary.

He didn't in any way come off like a victim. He was screwed by being sent to a dreadful Orginization that is going no where, and had no chance of winning at any time soon. And he had every right to be unhappy being sent there, and letting mnagement know that he wasn't happy there. Every right in the World. He gave up any control he had over his own career to stay in Philly. It's amazes me how people judge from afar without putting themselves in another's shoes. And money has nothing to do with it. And money doesn't take away human emotions. Ridiculous.

it's obvious that your objectivity re Richards/Carter is right there w/ joerussomanno's re Bryz. we all have our biases and there's nothing ridiculous about that...doesn't make us bad people

so since he's a rfa, instead of the needing a 10% raise for a qualifying offer, they can offer him less and it still counts as a q.o.?

Slater Koekkoek: Flyers could likely get him at 20 overall, but I don't think they want to draft a second/third paring guy in first round.

He thinks Flyers would like to move into the Top 10 to get a defenseman who can step in and play right away (top line). Not sure who would be on that list and how they can move up 10 spots.

That would be nice

As written by Todd Cordell (He writes about the OHL & here for the Devils) good writer.

Great information. Scouts have nothing but good things to say about this kid. Seems like a very good selection if he is available. Does he help them this year? Is he ready to play at the NHL level?

I'm extremely objective about it. And my objectivity is based on I'm not in his shoes. And I wasn't there. So I'm not going to criticize based on hearsay and judge someone for how they reacted to a situation. I put myself in his shoes and ask, how would I have felt.

And I didn't in any way state that anyone is a bad person for having an opinion. But Jeff Carter is apparently a bad person for being human.

Not likely he missed much of the year from a shoulder injury. Some times they can't rush them & need to let them develop but that being said he could or he could be a few years away.

But from what I watched of him, he is impressive. If they stay at 20 he's on my list of short list for D

I wouldn't mind this move. The Flyers I think are looking to add a defenseman whos ready to play (is there any that are ready in this draft)? I'm all about adding Shultz and drafting this kid. Going for Weber is going to be a long shot plus you have to trade away some young pieces.

Look up Brendan Gaunce from the Belleville Bulls he sort of reminds me of Paul Gaustad. Tell me what you think.

Scouts say he is a second line center at best. Needs to improve his skating but has the tools to be a very solid player. Plays well in both ends, something I like a lot.

Saw him play against Kingston in January.

He has solid tools but like any prospect he has to develop.

Interesting thing about the #Flyers wanting to move up, is if the dman they want isn't there, I think it's possible they take a forward.

What forward would be there at 10? This draft seems to be very deep this year.
