we NEED an ELITE prospect, no more of these "good" ones. I say go big or go home this draft. - peddy-93
There are only three of those; Yakupov, Galchenyuk and Murray. The Leafs didn't tank hard enough. They have to tank better next year. Unless they trade up, the Leafs are stuck with the leftovers. This was not a deep draft. Bad year to tank compared to previous years.

He's perfect for being a center. He's a hard worker, two-way player and he has the size for it. All he has to do is make sure his face-off skills are up to par.
As for being a "2nd line guy", that's only because he's not a flashy player. It's not like he scored 10 goals and 40 points in the OHL. He did very well as a rookie. Actually, not even that far off from Kadri's numbers.
Dumba is a stupid pick for the Leafs. He's a one-dimensional player and the complete opposite of what this team needs. Burke even hinted at it himself.

Scouting report on Dumba:
"Matt Dumba is a strong and swift skater with a big shot and a knack for delivering open-ice hits with his six-foot, 172-pound frame. Red Deer Rebels coach Jesse Wallin said that “for a defenceman he has very good feet. He has great acceleration. He's a powerful skater, very strong on his feet and very mobile.” Scouts are also very impressed with his lateral movement and the physical element of his game. Dumba is already being called the next Dion Phaneuf, and most scouts believe that he's a pretty complete package on defense. Rebels VP of Hockey Operations Randy Peterson says that Dumba can run a powerplay well, and is a big-time player with a great shot.Offensively Matt is just as good, if not better than he is defensively. He has a hard and accurate shot that he gets through to the net consistently. Matt’s puck control is top notch, he’s able to beat players one on one and drives the net like a power forward. One of the biggest things about Matt’s game is that he makes very few mistakes, and the few mistakes he does make, he’s able to recover from by using his good hockey sense. The Calgary native was the WHL Rookie of the Year for the 2010-2011 season, and certainly has the potential to be a top notch force in the NHL some day."
yup, sure sounds like a stupid, 1-dimensional player
Almost every scouting report mentions his strength defensively, or the work he does on the powerplay.

Burke will inquire about moving up, and if the price isnt too steep, then i say do it. We need to take the next step when it comes to the level of our prospects.

if the leafs cant trade up in this draft they should take a long look at trading down to gain another asset or two (pick wise of course)
trade themselves into a position to grab gaunce and maybe another mid to late first or early second
all i gotta say is burke better not waste this pick moving it for some "established" veteran

You kind of contradict yourself. You say Burke may not rank Grigs as high as others, but before you said Faksa is an off the board pick. Whose to say that Burke doesn't have him ranked high? - Leafland
Nobody. But most of what will drop Grigs down in Burke's books, is probably where he's from

The Leafs paid a 2nd and a 3rd round pick to move from 7th to 5th to take Schenn so the Leafs could probably get the same. That means being able to pick two more times in the top 90. It's worth it.
Or, the Leafs could take the 2nd and the 3rd round pick and use it to trade up into the late 1st round. Maybe take a player like Gaunce or Laughton, depending on if they fall or not. - Unholy_Goalie
If we could flip those picks to get another high pick maybe but those 2 picks ended up being Shawne Lalonde and Matt Clark.
I understand fully that drafting is of the utmost importance, but I believe that you should do it with the picks you have and I don't really place a lot of value on anything outside of the top 15 really. Not worth making any deals, just keep the pick and take the best player left.
Please don't send me your Zetterberg late round stories, for every Zetterberg there was 100 other kids you've never heard of

I could definitely see leafs seeking 2nd overall for Galchenyuk i think Columbus is really high on Forberg and have a good chance of getting him at 5 plus the bonus whatever the leafs give them.

why must you ignore every single thing that disproves the point you're trying to make? - Schenn-Sational!
I don't even have to look it up to know you just copied and pasted it from mynhldraft.com. Nice try but Dumba is well documented for being a question mark defensively. He puts himself way out of position to throw the big hit and is often left chasing rather than playing stable defense. You just have this vision in your mind that the Leafs could grab the next Phaneuf so then we could have two mindless head hunters patrolling the blueline.
