IMO ashton doesn't look like the real deal, even in the minors he's blah. I'll eat crow gladly if i'm wrong.
- aminnes

The games I watched, he wasn't anything special.
As I said at the time..the Aulie deal was absolutely foolish.

He had 3 points in 6 games in the Marlies playoffs run.

0 in 15 for the Leafs, but during their terrible downward spiral when nobody was playing good.

Rest, he had a concussion. He's 21, 6'3" 215. I think he'll be a good 3rd liner; worst case a fringe NHLer/AHLer call-up kind of guy (Crabb, Boyce, Brent).

usually glenda puts out snack displays for this kind of thing.. wonder if she even knows its going on?

i better message the gf.. maybe they can put out a eurocup display with different snack ideas

- Dozzer

the market of all places would be key...because correct me if wrong, but it seems the vast majority of workers/owners/shoppers are Euro...would certainly drive sales I would say.

Aulie isn't anything special either. And he's played almost 80 NHL games, and pretty sure he was going to be waiver risk, so they had to deal him.

agreed that he's a 3 liner of which the leafs have way too many. top four d-men are invauable, and Aulie will play up all next year with tamps. This team is overrun with potential 3 and 4 liners

You'll see my friend. played world junior and was very good. Hard nosed and fighting at 19 and very rarely makes a stupid play. He gets it out one way or another. We won't know for sure until a few more years but IMO he's absolutely going to be good. He won't be in his prime for 7 years and when he was up looked every bit as good as anybody on the team in his own end.

See my post re: waiver risk. They had to move him. And this year, yes, we have a glut of 3rd liners. Next march trade deadline and June 30th, 2013? Not so much: most/some/all of Connolly, Lombardi, Steckel, Bozak, Armstrong will be gone.

I like Aulie, but he's nothing special and with the number of defensemen we have who are not waiver eligible or have two-way contracts for cap reasons, he's the odd man out.

There sure was a lot of hype about schenn at the time. Here's the thing with him though. obviously he is sought after so he has something teams like. He is VERY young especially for a defensemen, and he is one of 2 guys that actually lay the body on the entire defense so he is more valuable than what it may seem. He needs to learn how to kill penalties, although the entire team pretty much blows at that, can i say i miss hal gill?

B-b-b-but.. if we still had wilson all year we would have had a top 3 pick, and there wouldnt be all these rumors of trading up

I think it was ronny. He was pretty public about him "not being ready" despite his good own zone play. trading away a guy because you might have to pay him a little more than the minimum seems silly for ashton. Again, only because he's another 3 liner. If they traded him for someone better it's cool, but to be dumping salary on entry level guys seems a little strange. It will be interesting to see him in tampa, especially if they don't get the goaltending they're after, it will really display what he can do. But realistically, a team that usually makes the playoffs, and went to the semis 2 years ago is going to play him like 15-20 minutes per game, meanwhile the leafs who continue to suck crap can't find a spot for him. It's a lot like Franson. The guy is good enough to play top 4 minutes on a perennial playoff team but somehow wasn't good enough to crack the lineup with the leafs and wilson. This is why the Leafs are crap, because they think they know better than teams that actually are better. Hal gill can't be resigned for 2 mill but he's good enough to kill penalties for the cup champs. I know thats old news, just saying (the pk was pretty good when he was around). I'm just passed the point where i believe that the Leafs actually know more than other teams.

Yes, because they've played so well under Carlyle.
