Tampa is at 10 and 19 I believe.

it would be a gutsy move (personally i see faksa top ten easily) but if burke swung deals to make it happen and get both.. i'd be very pleased

Even if we go into next season with the same team plus Scrivens we wont do as bad as this year.
- yea-ok-buddy

Yup.

People forget that we were in a playoff spot for most of the season.

The collapse has everyone exaggerating.

Our biggest need is Grade A prospects. We're not going anywhere, until 1st line centre is filled. Some will say goaltending, but I don't think that it's as bad as most people think. Shore up the Defence, plug up the centre position, with a Grade A prospect and then you may consider moving forward.

Why not just trade some defensemen not named Gardiner for the 2nd? I'm no GM but I'm sure Phaneuf and Franon + 5th overall would land the 2nd.

wondered that myself.. i think those picks are a touch too late to get both tho
- Dozzer

Tom Wilson at 19th adds nicely to the Ross/Biggs/Carrick/Devane/Greenrop bumhole squad, that could contribute nicely to making the other teams miserable night-in and night-out... but we'd be better off acquiring that pick another way, standing pat with our pick(assuming we can't trade up), and drafting the BPA.

We've been over this. Columbus and Montreal need him just as bad if not worse than the Leafs do. Absolutely no way they give that up unless you grossly overpay for it. And you say Gardiner is untouchable? Well, that's the kind of overpayment those teams want to make a deal.

So take your pick, give up Gardiner and trade up for Galchenyuk or keep Gardiner, trade down a little, get more picks and draft high again next year?

- Unholy_Goalie

So what happens next year, when we dradt at 10 or 11 and miss the opportunity to grab that number 1 centre that this team drastically needs? This may be our last opportunity to get that franchise centre, because at 10 or 11, it won't happen.

not necesarily

he is saying that there will be too crowded a market to trade up this year due to the lack of certainty in the prospect pool

so his argument is, draft well.. perhaps even drop back to gain a pick, and play the youth and if they dont suceed its not as big a deal.. the youth would gain experience and they get a nice high pick in a prospective deep draft

- Dozzer

The propesct quality from 2nd to 5th doesnt warrant Gardiner to trade up. There is more then a good chance Galchenyuk will be at 5.

Wonder if people will be saying "I cant wait to tank next year" when Burke adds Luongo.

Funny, same people who want the Leafs to lose, are the same people who complain about every little thing, and losing.

Plus a new defensive system, plus our young guns getting more mature.

Would be best if Burke would just take Grigs at 5... Mono and laziness are not the same thing.

But yea, it's possible one of the other centers falls to 5. Not sure I'd take Forsberg over Dumba or Murray though

Agreed......There is enough talent on this team and in the minors to get this done without Gardiner. My feelings about this look like this: Burke is going after Nash and in that big deal, the 2nd overall may come into play.

So apparently the Isles can't resign pa parenteau .

I think we should go after him. Then we can trade one of MacArthur and/or Kulemin for other needs.

I think Russian trained players are almost always a bust. You can only count on Malkin and Datsyuk as reliable Russians and Grigorenko is neither of these!

precisely the point

unless its for the number one.. gardiner stays put.. too steep a price for anyone else

thats what i mean.. moving up to 2, 3, or 4 might have a gardiner price tag on it, and thats too steep.. so either draft at 5 or fall back and gain a pick

there is one kid in this draft worth moving a guy like gardiner for imo

Burkes not going to go into next season with the same roster lol, Will be lucky to have a pick in the top 10, more likely 10 to 20.

Worth signing if it's under 3M. Remember Bell, Poni, Stajan, Blake, etc though... poopty players can put up good numbers on poopty teams.

What happens if Burke tries as hard as he can and still gets a lottery pick? How many times have we heard "this year, the Leafs will fight for a playoff spot" and then end up near the bottom of the league?

At the end of the day, if Burke builds a team that drafts 10th or 11th next year and continues climbing up the standings, he'll just get his center the same way he got everybody else; by overpaying for it in a trade. If he's not willing to make the sacrifice next year, he's going to make the same trade you are suggesting but with a move proven player and further down the line.

Sign pa parenteau. Trade Kulemin and MacArthur, let Frattin take Kulemins spot.

Parenteau-Grabovski-Frattin.

Trade MacArthur to Dallas for Steve Ott and a 2nd rounder.

It's easier to get to 2 from 5, then get to 3 from 10. Also, get the pick this year and the development starts this year, not next year.

Your also forgetting something......Wilson is gone and Carlyle will have a better defensive system in place.

Yea... Kovalchuk? Ovechkin? They're not to shabby either, you know?

Volchenkov, Markov, Gonchar... Don't forget Kulemin, sure he had an off-year, but the guy never quits.
