Lamoriello: "It was very important for our fans, in my opinion, and put aside hearing, even when I go in a restaurant, a certain name, So, maybe they’ll call Adam’s (Henrique) name now when I go and eat rather than Matteau."
This draft is supposed to have a lot of defense prospects, right? Our defense isn't incredibly old but by the time a defensive prospect drafted from this year is developed Tallinder and Volchenkov will be gone and Andy Greene is going to be much older. Merrill is a good prospect but he's still just that. We don't really have any young NHL talent in the back end except for Larsson. - Pomegrant
Merril, Gelinas, and Urbom are probably are three top prospects and they are all defensemen.
but the thing is theres nothing the rangers can give him that the devils can't with the exception maybe of a bit more money - bobert836
how about a top notch goalie locked up for awhile still. marty is very close to retirement and not sure how wedgewood will be until he gets his shot. that would be a big concern to me if i wanted to be with a winner
for once? i haven't seen you here since the ECF started. i always talk hockey on here. sorry if i had a few unprofessional posts lately. life goes on. - MartysBetter88
ive posted in here plenty during the ecf and the finals. i like to talk hockey. but i talk hockey. i dont make comments just to cause a stir.
As well as a below .500 career winning percentage in the playoffs. And for those ready to jump up and brag about his head to head record vs. Marty, keep in mind he is now 6 and 8 vs. the Devils in the playoffs. So no Vezinas, no cups, no cup finals appearances, no 40 win seasons? I vote he changes his nickname to "King of the 2006 Olympics". - smellmyfinger
relax, rangers fans are happy we finally have a goalie. first time since richter. devils fans will realize this feeling once marty is gone. devils organization has been blessed by having a top tier goalie for so long. it sucks when you don't. trust me lol, it's not a fun time. what is funny is when people talk him down when his play proves them wrong every year. just like marty has been for so long, hank is a great goalie. nicknames aside, you can't deny what he has done in ny so far in his career. especially for a team that can't score goals
They can take the penalty in the 2014 draft, it doesn't have to be next year.
Edit for clarification: While 2014 is still a ways away, it's expected to be a pretty weak draft class.
If you take a player today, you have 2 years to develop that player to help replenish a weak prospect pool. 2 years from now, hopefully the system is stronger, and you're in a weak draft class. - jtommyt
It is absolutely impossible to call a draft anything (weak or strong) in the summer that is 2 years away. Only a small fraction of late birthday kids have even seen action in a league that is notable. The kids that will turn 18 in their draft year, (ie the large majority) just got drafted into the CHL and most are 15 years old right now and are studying to learn how to drive a car.
Like I said, if you have the worst possible draft pick in a weak draft, I'd rather give that up than take my chance in 2 years when we ultimately lose our goalie and possibly our best player in back to back years. I get the development part of it all, but I'd rather gamble on what I know is there and not what on what I don't. Conceptual differences I suppose.

I don't know if we even need an elite goalie. Marty was not elite this year, and though he did step it up in the playoffs, aside from the finals I wouldn't call him elite. He made the right saves at the right time, but for 2 series we controlled the majority of the play and against florida, a few big saves would have prevented it from going as long as it did. A stopgap to let Wedgewood and Kinkaid develop would be helpful. Looking at 2013 UFAs, Backstrom, Lehtonen, Howard, Smith, and Karlsson could all provide that role. While not all will make it to UFA, I think we could snag one.

I'm not condoning it, but it is a Devils blog. Bashing rivals is commonplace on pretty much every blog.

He won't be a Red Wing and I'm fine with that. I want Semin. I've seen the best of Parise and the worst of Semin and come to realize that the worst of Semin is pretty darn close to the best Parise can do and that's scarry. All we need is a coach who could get Semin to play the way he can every game. He is enormously talented

There is nothing about the two that is similar especially in the work ethic part

I think Semin is a better fit in detroit simply because he'll be cheaper and they would still be able to get suter. I don't think they could pull off Parise and Suter.
