On the factors in his decision:
“It’s everything. It’s someplace you can win. I’m 27 but then you’ve got to start thinking about a family. You’ve got to be comfortable, with the surroundings, with the coaches, with the teammates. There’s a lot of things that come into play.”
Rangers being a contender this year shows they can be a winner. And with family, there is no place closer than NY. A place where it doesnt force his family to pick up and move. Just saying... Again who knows. I think a player will always say he will never sign with a rival team, but when the time comes and a decision needs to be made you never know what is going through his head then after speaking with different GM's. Going to be an interesting summer - hauger14
It was a pretty quick and resounding no, if you watched the video. To me, a Devils player, especially of his caliber, going over to the Rangers creates more harm then good for both that player and the two organizations involved. Especially a year removed from the captaincy of the Devils, it's just not the right thing for him to do at this point in his career.

Olympics matter more for the home countries, Lundqvist winning the gold medal for Sweden doesn't have the same satisfaction for Rangers fans as him winning a Stanley Cup as a Ranger. I hate Lundqvist, mostly because of his nickname and he's on the Rangers, but I still respect him and how good he is. - _Zippy_
of course, i just mean it is a very respectable tournament. it doesnt go for the rangers, but for him as a player it should. i am a big international hockey fan so maybe that's why i put more on the olympics/wc/wjc than others |

it was, but if his main intentions and want is to resign than he will answer that way. i mean when the time comes to make a decision if they cant resign him, we dont know what was said by different GM's and teams to try to lure him in. i was just stating he made a point family as a factor, and i've always had one of my main points of him coming to ny was he wouldnt have to pick up and move his family or leave his family. in the end that could be a deciding factor for a lot of people. im just keeping my hopes up because i love parise (no homo)! only one of a few devils ive ever liked regardless of the rivalry. lets just say the ones who have come over in the past were not on my good list haha |

LOL Schultz signing with the devils? Or edmonton or vancouver... its the worst kept secret in the NHL he will be a leaf come July 1st or before if Murray and Burke work out a deal for his rights.
He wants to play with his buddy gardiner. - beleaf4ever
This particular line of thinking will be great fun when he signs somewhere else. |

you don't know much about the devils franchise do you? we like to build our core players within the system and keep them there...like elias, zajac, danekyo, brodeur, parise...unless the devils really lowball him i think he'll take a page from brodeur and stay in nj for what we can offer him...you do realize brodeur took substantially LESS money last time he signed for the good of the team...and he'll do the same this year if he comes back...either way the devils are a much more internal team than others and i truly believe parise will test the waters come july 1st but remain a devil |

and as far as brodeur goes...i can easily see him in the same type of role danekyo is in right now when he hangs em up...or even as a goalie coach...in a perfect world he would replace chico as the color guy cause hes just a little too big of a homer...and marty has always been in love with the history of the game so he would do really well as a color guy |

that may be true but i still think he did it for the team...im SURE other teams wouldve payed a premium for the best goalie of all time in his prime...with or without an agent |

henrik lundqvist does have a pretty lame nickname to be honest - dmarsden2988
As well as a below .500 career winning percentage in the playoffs. And for those ready to jump up and brag about his head to head record vs. Marty, keep in mind he is now 6 and 8 vs. the Devils in the playoffs. So no Vezinas, no cups, no cup finals appearances, no 40 win seasons? I vote he changes his nickname to "King of the 2006 Olympics". |

Yeah, like Neidermayer, Guerin, Muller, Holik, Gomez, Verbeek, Martin, Rupp, Gionta, Shanahan, MacLean, Lemieux and so many others.

how many of those other than nieds (who went to play with his brother, and after winning 3 cups here you cant fault him wanting to play with his brother after his mom was pretty public about it) and shanny went on and played big roles and have been successful?
when holik and gomez were offered those contracts im pretty sure it was pretty smart for lou not to wanna match for the type of player at that stage |

Rupp
Guy was a plug in NJ.
Martin was looking for far too much money, and was a softie. Never tried building around him. Shanahan was signed away by the blues (it was also fairly evident Shanny would leave as soon as he could). Our compensation was Scotty Stevens. Lemieux was never a career devil or anything. Same with Holik. MacLean demanded a trade, and was washed up when he did. Nieds wanted a cup with his brother. Gomez- see Martin. Gio was no longer part of the core. Lou started to move in a different direction after the second Sutter season, which is why players like Pando, Madden, Gionta, etc weren't resigned. Pretty terrible list. |

Rupp was a core player in NJ. We let him go and the team crumbled. |

Neidermeyer went to go play with his brother.
I'm not old enough for Guerin/Muller/Verbeek.
Holik and Gomez both had ludricious contracts, pass on those too.
Martin and Gionta fall in the same category as the above.
MacLean ASKED to be traded.
Lemieux was traded.
So all of your points are stupid. As half of them, Lou was smart about or had no other choice. |
