I think they're going to wait for the new CBA to see if he can be buried in the minors and if they can still do that they will. |

I could totally see us signing him if he gets bought out, as that low-risk high-reward type guy. |

except Gomez was obviously an idiot, being that he won nothing with anyone but NJ, and Parise knows a lame franchise when he sees and beats it.. so i doubt he'll change his mind. - MartysBetter88

come back when lundqvist is close to marty's records or has at least 2 cups, then we can talk
we all know he is a very very good goalie, top 3 in the league today, but to be called "king" for his olympic performance is well kids league, win something in the NHL before you call a player king
and i say that about any player in any league |

The top tier of next year is much better than this years. This draft is very underwhelming. There are a lot of players who could likely be players, but no real standouts. The issue is, in my opinion, if the Devils do take a step back and end up say picking 9th as an example, and hit the lottery, they have a top 5 pick in a top tier that looks to have about 7 absolute impact players. Just based on the CHL ones alone, its an extremely impressive group. So now they've picked both times and have set themselves up for the following year in which they have to give up the pick. As for the depoth of the following year, who knows.
I guess the point is, in a draft that is not strong and you have the 2nd worst pick available, you'd think the GM would forfeit that one and go forward to the other two drafts, where the likelihood of returning to the finals is historcially growing slimmer and slimmer. Just my thinking. It seemed like an absolute no brainer. Weaker draft, worst pick versus strong draft unknown pick versus unknown draft and unknown pick. Play the odds. - Lohaus
They can take the penalty in the 2014 draft, it doesn't have to be next year.
Edit for clarification: While 2014 is still a ways away, it's expected to be a pretty weak draft class.
If you take a player today, you have 2 years to develop that player to help replenish a weak prospect pool. 2 years from now, hopefully the system is stronger, and you're in a weak draft class. |

i agree with you he needs to win some hardware in the nhl, but dont ever talk down an olympic gold medal! it is the countries best together on one team representing their country. i think he deserves credit for winning the gold just like ANY player should get the credit for doing so |

On the factors in his decision:
“It’s everything. It’s someplace you can win. I’m 27 but then you’ve got to start thinking about a family. You’ve got to be comfortable, with the surroundings, with the coaches, with the teammates. There’s a lot of things that come into play.”
Rangers being a contender this year shows they can be a winner. And with family, there is no place closer than NY. A place where it doesnt force his family to pick up and move. Just saying... Again who knows. I think a player will always say he will never sign with a rival team, but when the time comes and a decision needs to be made you never know what is going through his head then after speaking with different GM's. Going to be an interesting summer |

Olympics matter more for the home countries, Lundqvist winning the gold medal for Sweden doesn't have the same satisfaction for Rangers fans as him winning a Stanley Cup as a Ranger. I hate Lundqvist, mostly because of his nickname and he's on the Rangers, but I still respect him and how good he is.
