I don't think the depth chart is going to be an issue. The Forward depth chart is likely to change in the near future.

I take it you think they'll try to deal with Weber? What do you think that package would look like??

I, for one, don't want to blow up the forward corps for a defensman, even if it is Weber...

Just food for thought if Read and Schenn are traded for Weber:

Fwd lines assuming Jagr is re-signed:

Jagr-G - Hartnell
Simmonds-Briere- Voracek
JVR-Coots - Wellwood
Rinaldo- Talbot -Shelley/Sestito

Certainly, line combinations can change, but that is still a pretty deep forward core and to obtain a true, stud #1 d-man who is just entering his prime, I would do the deal in a heartbeat.

The $12 million dollar question because I think that will be Weber's first year salary in the contract he signs, whoever the team will be.

I'm sure he was talking about players only. It would definitely take at least 2 firsts as well.

But I still say don't. Instead, sign another "#2".

It would not cost Read Schenn and two 1st's. Maybe if he was on a long term deal but if that's the price then they can keep him.

For Weber, there would be other pieces, I'm kind of suprised they wouldn't want a Meszy back, but in my scenerio:

Weber-Kimmo
Grossmann-Coburn
Meszy-Bourdon/Guftsy
Lilja

Even if Cousins is added, there still is Noebels and Akeson in the pipeline. I don't think Wideman is worth the money he will receive and I'm not sure Garrison can duplicate his production, his one year of really good production is a concern for me.

Bill Maher ‏@billmaher

Stop congratulating me on Stanley Cup cuz I live in L A. No one here gives a poop about a winter sport played by Russians/Canadians in June

More evidence that Bill Maher is the biggest douchebag on the planet.

I think they would front load the contract similiar to Brad Richard's contract with the Rangers. Richards is getting $33 million in the first three years, but his cap hit is $6.67 million.

In my humble opinion, I think Weber is a top 10 talent in the league regardless of position. If the Flyers trade for him, I'm pretty sure Homer is very confident he will be able to sign him long-term. The Pronger trade was the same way, he was entering the last year of his contract. Weber is better now then Pronger at his stage of his career when the trade was made for Sbisa, Lupul and two 1st rd. picks.

well cap hit and actual salary are two different things. I only concern myself with the cap hit, it is the only thing that actually affects the operation of the team. Especially in the case of the Flyers.

Okay, then I would think the cap hit would be somewhere around $7.5 million with a significant amount of money in the first couple of years of the contract. Weber helps greatly in all three zones, I don't have a problem with a hefty cap hit.

it's always funny going into the comments board on ek's blogs. i'll tell ya, leafs and sabres fanbases have some incredibly delusional fans. just unbelievable, one leaf fan thought jake gardiner alone was worth the 1st pick in the draft. i mean wow. then he said they should send some loose ends for nash.

7.5 is a healthy cap hit for Weber.

i'd say yes, i have three example. dustin penner was signed to one and stolen from anaheim by edmonton. thomas vanek has a 7.14mm cap hit and he's a 4mm player tops and the sharks signed hjarlmersson to one forcing the hawks to pay to keep him, thus losing antti niemi who the sharks signed and for the most part has been good in their net.

granted dustin penner didn't pan out for edmonton, vanek does have a 45 goal season and niemi has been leaky at times.

Leafs fans are the BEST!! Every player is the "next big thing"! Think about how many big things they have now! It's a wonder they haven't won the Cup yet with Kadri et al marching into the playoffs....

One of these decades, Toronto. Be patient. They just need that one piece to push them over the edge.
