Why would we need a 4th line center? I'm sure Couturier could start the season there and Talbot could possibly end the season there. Heck, maybe Talbot could play the entire season on the 4th line. - roenick97
I had to restrain myself from asking the same question. We. Don't. Need. Centers.
Nanne is Mr Minnesota Hockey. I wouldn't doubt him. I was just thinking of his great quote about Mike Modano and Link Gaetz.
Nanne was GM of the North Stars, and had the top pick in 1988. He took Modano with it, and then took the rowdy Gaetz in round two.
Years later, after Gaetz had been out of the league and exhibited strange behavior and battled bottle problems, Nanne said of his draft:
"We took Mike in the first round to protect the franchise. We took Link in the second round to protect Mike. We should have taken a lawyer in the third round to protect Link." - Jsaquella
The good old days of Amerks hockey when Don Cherry saved the franchise.
I remember, as a boy, listening to that game. - MrBuzzcut
Wensink is probably the craziest sob I've ever seen play. Here he is challenging the entire Minnesota bench to fight him (end of the vid).
Dunno if you have read Cherry's book "Grapes", but in it he says he was legit worried that Wensink was crazy. Considering the source, that is a chilling thought.
And none of them are especially good at faceoffs, and only Schenn is really physical, and he might end up on a wing - Jsaquella
Wasn't G pretty solid at the dot in the POs this year??
Not saying I disagree here, though. We do need a bona fide faceoffs guy. I like Schenner at the wing, by the way. Same with Reader.
I'd like to see G, Briere, Cooter, and Talbot be the centers for this team. Only thing is that I want Cooter to see 2nd line minutes, but I don't think he will merely based on the depth in front of him in G and Briere.

I thought Giroux was pretty physical as well. One would think Couturier would grow into being a physical player.

That's quite a "compliment" coming from Don.
There were a lot of great brawls in that old barn.
The Flyers could absolutely use a 4th line Center faceoff/PK specialist. - MJL
I completely agree. But what would we do with the other guys? If we add a Gaustadish player that can take draws and kill penalties, who shifts to wing?

G is always physical. I think it comes solely from his fiercely competitive nature as opposed to him being an "actual" physical player, if that makes sense. Which it really doesn't. I hope everyone gets what I'm saying

Briere?? - Giroux_Is_God
Whoever. Briere would have no problem playing the Wing.

We could use a 4th line center, we don't exactly need one. I think certain players would hurt on the wing.
1. He held a respectable 52% clip at the dot. I can live with that. I'd like to see better, but in no way is that bad.
2. He was 3rd in the NHL in playoff points with 17 points. That's 4 points from overtaking Brown and Kopitar for the lead, who were tied with 20 points.

I remember Briere playing wing a few times this year looking lost. He can't really drive to the net and score prototypical Danny B goals playing wing. Nor can he set up shop behind the opponent's net playing wing. (theoretically...position wise....ya know??)
I actually remember Bill saying he looked terrible at wing in a blog during the season. Don't remember exactly when, but I'm pretty sure I remember reading it...

Briere looks like a guy more likely to dish a pass coming down from the wing, the a guy looking to score. I also like watching Briere come down the middle. You never know what he's going to do when he does. He's all over the place in the offensive zone.

Why can't he? Players adjust. We heard the same things here such as Carter can't play Wing. And Carter and Richards can't play together. Briere can play the Wing. No reason why he can't. Wings don't go to the net, or play around the net offensively?

Briere being moved to center was an instant upgrade in our 2010 playoff run. Jeff Carter was pretty much called out by Sutter during a game on NBC at one point because he wasn't playing well on the wing. These are NHL players. They're not going to look terrible, they can still play but it doesn't mean it's their strongest position.

Center may be Briere's stronger position now. But if it's for the the good of the team and it's needed. Briere can move to Wing and adjust and be just as effective. He'll have all Season to work at it.

Briere looked pretty hot in the playoffs once again to me. Why move him and how would it be for the good of the team?

Plus he had such a great year playing center this season....playoffs notwithstanding.
Briere is the first one I would think about moving to wing.
I also would like to see the Flyers get a big defense oriented forward. Wing or center...just someone with some size who can take care of things in his own end.
