There is no such thing as sending a player to the minors in the off season. The playoffs don't matter. Here are the rules for Off Season Cap accounting.
Teams can exceed the salary cap's upper limit by 10 percent during the off-season. The following count toward the team's cap payroll:
All players on one-way contracts, regardless of where (or if) they were playing the previous year.
All players on two-way contracts, in proportion to the number of days spent on an NHL roster the previous season.
All restricted free agents who have been extended a qualifying offer (while the offer is valid), with one-way qualifying offers counting in full and two-way qualifying offers counting as described in No. 2.
All restricted free agents signed to an offer sheet (such players count against the team extending the offer sheet while it is still valid).
All buyouts. - MJL
Interesting.

Without question. For a dominating physical monster, in his absolute prime on the blueline. And arguably the best defenseman in the NHL. Without a doubt. What do you think is harder to get? An elite star #1 defenseman, or a solid 2 way centerman? - MJL
Defenseman are much harder to find. The Flyers are also very good at drafting forwards as opposed to defenseman. Giroux is my only untouchable if I'm going after Weber. |

It would kill me to give up Couturier. But for Weber I would have to. An Elite #1 defenseman is the most important player on the ice next to the goaltender.

When I'm getting back the best defenseman in the league in his prime I would be willing to make that deal. Couturier has plenty of time to grow and may become a great first line center but I already know what Weber is and thats an absolute monster. I'm a big believer in building your team from the net out. It showed this year that you can score all the goals you want but with no defense it means nothing.
It would hurt to give up Couturier as well. I would work around doing that obviously but if I had no choice I make the move. |

He was one of the handful of guys I would have liked to see the Flyers take a run at. |

I'm tired of all these big moves, it has yet to produce a cup, it's time to stop that approach in my eyes and try something else. |

I'd prefer him of Shelley and Rinaldo, but he's not a faceoff guy. Loved him on 24/7 |

Thats another solution to the problem. Flyers could just resign Carle and add another 3rd pairing player. Let this team develop more chemistry. Just have to learn to be more responsible in their own end. |

As Butsy said on twitter: Re-sign Carle and Jagr, trade Bob to move up in draft or add picks, go after Barrett Jackman & Marty Biron in UFA, viola |

Like to add Dom Moore? Be a nice 4th line center. |

Moore would be a good addition, too. Jay McClement, Torrey Mitchell, Adam Burish, Colin Fraser and Ryan Carter interest me in the UFA market |

Not sure Bob would get you to move up considering most teams in front of them already have a goalie.
He may land you an extra pick or two if that's all they wanted.
The other players would be nice. |

I'd like that & some attempt at developing a talent pool in the system this big move every year stuff hasn't worked & yet they keep trying it. |

Just dangling Bob likely doesn't get you into the top ten. Very true. |

They traded for Pronger which was really the big move. Last offseason they signed Bryz and only traded a pick for his rights. The organization then decided to make a splash by trading Richards & Carter (which they could of held on to). I understand their concern with not having a legit number one defenseman. If there is no one available in that slot then they should just upgrade the 3rd pairing and add a 4th line center who can win face offs and play good defense. |

It might not even get them into the top 15 & that might say something in a not so deep draft. |

If we need a 4th line center I like Dominic Moore. Not sure if hes a FA, I believe so, and no clue on cost, but I always liked him as a role guy.

He is, but with his wife having a rare form of liver cancer he may opt to try and stay in San Jose if that's the location she is receiving treatment.

That's the big issue, trade Bob to move up and get a guy who you could get at 20? |

yup, it's why I keep suggesting staying at 20 is the best move. JVR would likely get them to the top 10 maybe close to top 5. |

I'd suggest Stoll but he is likely out of their salary range. |
