Teams will be falling over themeselves to overpay like always. The Cap should be going down not up. I'm not sure how a new labor deal gets done? These salaries are still way out of control. All this does not give a pass for the Isles to do the wrong thing.

Bingo. He hasn't been productive. If you look at his year-end numbers, they're not terrible, but not 1st line numbers. But the real problem with his numbers are that they are inflated by scoring bursts in the second half of seasons, when the team is out of the playoff picture. Look at the breakdown of his KO's numbers last year. He did squat during the time when the Isles could actually say they were in a playoff race. When they fell out, KO went on a tear. The same with Bailey and Grabs.

PAP was scoring from the drop of the puck in October. He produced when the team was in the playoff race, and when they were out of it. Until guys like KO, Bailey and Grabs start scoring and contributing when the team is in the playoff race, none of them should be considered first line players over a guy like PAP.

Amen. KO and friends late season runs alone should tell Garth and Charles the Isles need a real coach.

My hopes for the off season:

PA Parenteau signed 4 years/$18m
Jason Garrison signed 4 years/$18m
Dylan Reese signed 2 years/$4m
Strome gets a 9 game trial as 2nd line center
Niederreiter starts in the AHL
Donovan starts the season in the NHL

Opening Night:

Moulson - Tavares - Parenteau
Grabner - Strome - Okposo
Bailey - Nielsen - Ullstrom
Martin - Reasoner - Cizikas

Hamonic - MacDonald
Garrison - Streit
Donovan - Reese

- kcNYI

I don't want Strome in the NHL next year unless he blows away everyone during a nine game look to start the year. And I mean "blows people away", not just hanging in there. We don't need another Nino situation.

I don't see Reese as an NHL regular. Certainly not for $2M/season. I'd rather see a kid like Murray (if they pick him and he's ready) or another established vet rather than Reese.

Oh yeah? Remember that statement. There will be the same old people printing those passes up in a month or so.

$5 million is too much money for PAP but the Isles NEED to spend money just to get to floor. My point was basically, why not over pay for a guy that's actually very good and productive rather than let him walk and fill that $5 million hole with two or three washed up players that take time away from young players.
- Isles316

2 options:

1) overpay $5 Million for a player that had a career year and doesnt project to be more than what he was this past year?
2) overpay $8 Million for a player that has proven to be successful and significantly better than player A?

Agreed JAck is to soft and does not have enough hockey smarts to coach a team. In fact I talked last night to an ex AHL coach who said he is coaching like an AHL coach coaches. He is kind of babying the young guys and not challenging them at all. I totally agreed with him and think the Islanders need a coach to go in there and actually make them work. This team looked lazy so many times during the games. They stopped skating stopped playing everything. They were embarassing at times

I couldn't agree with this more. The problem is a two fold thing. One, they have to reach the floor and we all know the lengths they'll go to reach it. Two, they are idiots.

I only said a 9 game trial for Strome...he SHOULD be sent back to Juniors unless he blows away everyone (which is possible).

As for Reese - he played a steady game all last season when he was up and I think he's a little bit of a late bloomer. Definitely a decent guy to have on the 3rd pair. I agree, $2m/year is too much... bump that down to a 2 year/$2.4m contract.

Just trying to be realistic....Garrison will probably go somewhere else although we could definitely use him.

I'm so unsure of what Garth is going to do with this draft that I didn't even bother including potential ideas in my Opening Night roster.

If we do draft Murray I'd like to see...

Hamonic - MacDonald
Donovan - Streit
Murray - Garrison

That would be a pretty decent defense. Much of an upgrade to last year.

Garth should post this list all around the locker room untill like the 10th game of the season... When that list starts to math the actual standings..

I could live with a replacement who puts up fewer points than PA if that player brings some extra dimensions to the team...toughness along the boards, or leadership, or net presence, or responsible play in the neutral/defensive zones. For all his points, those are qualities PA lacked (except for maybe the leadership part...I wouldn't know). He is an intelligent playmaker, no doubt, but I think we have a number of those, both on the team and in the pipeline.

Hopefully KO gets the memo (in between watching the NBA & playing video games)

Ill give you Nielson & JT... i hope Bailey becomes that player... but if we can get that 67 points from the second line... even 50 pts... you cant put a price on that. PAP is very needed for this team to succeed.

That's what UFA is all about. Besides it wouldnt be a 5 million dollar overpayment. More like a million to a million in a half if Snow was willing to go to 3.5 over the winter.
You know what. I'll make an assumption here. I bet PaP would compromise and take 4- 4.2 mill to stay with the Isles but Snow wont go that high.

You dont know that.

No one expected him to put up the #'s he has and to say he's plateaued is guessing at best or naive.

completely agreed. This team is not deep enough to lose one of their top scorers for nothing. I cannot believe snow would assume one of the kids could step in and replace that scoring. I hope he doesn't believe that grabner rebounding and okposo/bailey playing well at the end of the year means they can replace those points by committee. Even with PA we had a terrible offense over the season and it needs a big improvement.
- Isles_since_6

and i cannot believe people are so quick to make decisions before the draft/free agency/the season starting.

maybe he has an idea other than plugging in another prospect. stop jumping to conclusions. let it play out

BREAKING NEWS!! Yo Phi Phat from the Thailand Super League was seen leaving on his Rickshaw after declining to sigh with the Isles. When asked why he declined, Yo Phi laughed and said "Seriously'?
