I don't see why JVR can't become a player like Hossa or Elias.
- bradleyc4

Im looking at JVR like one of those big time free agent signings. He was so unhealthy last season that he basically was NOT a factor.

Im hoping he comes back healthy, and therefore it will be just like adding a higher end free agent to the mix. JVR gets 30 next season, you watch.

i could live with jvr being traded. flyers were fine offensively without him.
- Philly1980

And that's why I see him leaving. Someone said something about picks for him. Maybe an offer sheet for Weber? That I would be ok with. I really like this team. Seemed the team was better without JVR then with him. A better mix of toughness and talent. Real good 4 lines rolling. I just think he and maybe a pick and/or another young dman(MAB, Guss) could be used to sure up our d. Move Bob and sign a Biron or someone. I think we could really be ready to go.

You cant make a statement like that without factoring in the injuries. This team will be better with a healthy JVR than without him.

You don't trade JVR unless you get a top pair guy in return. And I for one am sick of them dealing away young talent before they have a chance to fully develop. In my opinion this is what has hurt them most over the years.

This is certainly possible if he stays healthy. Nobody should expect that this kid reaches the 40's anytime soon. I wouldn't be surprised if JvR didn't reach the 40 goal plateau until he's 25-26 years of age.

offensively, i don't think it's a great stretch but if jvr ever becomes half the player hossa is defensively, i'd be beyond thrilled.

edit: if you meant marcel, ima be so mad.

I agree with your points and understand what you are saying. Without him in the line up, this team was strong and stacked. It seems like he is a luxury now. I only keep him if we can't resign jagr and V. If we can get those 2, he can help to sure up our d.

JvR has tons of talent and potential. This year is pretty much a wash for him because of the injuries. I would like the Flyers to hold onto him as well unless they are getting Weber in return. Makes no sense to trade him for another forward such as Nash who comes with a much higher cap hit.

Agreed. I think our offense will be fine. It always has been. We may have needed more balance in the past, but it's hard to remember a Flyers team that couldn't score goals in the last 15 years. I would love Weber . But I don't think we need him. I would be happy with resigning Carle and adding another solid dman to our mix. I would really like to see the same team back. Just add one or two guys. If you can trade JVr for picks to offer sheet Weber, then hells yeahs. If that's not an option, you talk to Suter. If he wants ridiculousness, then go to someone else.

I say trade JVR and then Bob for draft picks. Offersheet Weber. Resign Carle, Jagr, and Vorechek. Sign a Biron to be back up.

What kind of picks are we getting for those guys to somewhat offset the 5 first rounders we'd lose with an offer sheet to Weber?

I doubt Weber will sign an offersheet cause Nash can always match it.

From day one there he clearly has had some media training. He's a completely different guy. And he opens his mouth when he talks now, so you can hear him. Well coached.

Had some media training, or isn't having to deal with an adverserial Meida with an agenda. In my opinion it's likely the latter.

The key to Lavi's system is to send the 3 forwards rushing down ice once the defense touches the puck. Unfortunatley, strong forechecking teams, and teams the trap the nuertal zone really fudge with this system as they are either pestering the defense creating turn overs, or cloggin up the passing lanes... creating turn overs.

To change the system to compensate for this, would change the way the offense is played. I think it needs to be changed, but wont be.

- RooNosHockey

I don't understand what this means. Sending the 3 forwards rushing down ice?

Considering it spans 2 seasons, and more then just the Rangers... i would say its a coaching issue. I think Lavi feels that his system will beat the other systems. I hope this year showed him that every system has a counter style. The team that can adjust thier styles will win a lot more games.
- RooNosHockey

No Coach thinks that his system is going to beat the other systems. All Coaches know that it's players that win and beat systems.

I saw the Devils series like this:

The Flyers got taken out of their system completely, did not execute the system as it is supposed to be played because the Devils frustrated them.

The system didn't fail, the players failed because they got away from the system and started doing too much free wheeling. Couple that with poor decision making and poor execution and it was a recipe for disaster.

This does not take away from what the Devils did, but the Kings showed that they could beat the Devils by sticking to their system, making GOOD, quick high % passes, and not getting bogged down by slow decision making.

This was a case where the youth of this team worked against them. They were overwhelmed and couldn't cope with it.
