Well you can, you just have to hope you don't play teams like Rangers, Devils, Boston, or LA on the way to the finals. There was a reason I was rooting for Ottawa, Washington and Florida to win thier first round match ups... Would have been so close to predicting the Flyers-LA finals... at least I was half right...
- RooNosHockey

Hopefully we can play teams like Columbus, Carolina, NYI, and Toronto in the playoffs to.

Richards said some very nice things about the Flyers organization to Pierre.
- nastyflyergirl

From day one there he clearly has had some media training. He's a completely different guy. And he opens his mouth when he talks now, so you can hear him. Well coached.

Yeah, next years playoff run will be the Islanders, Jets, Hurricanes, and then the Blue Jackets in the Finals.

If Lavy doesnt realise that he only has two good defenseman that can move the puck like his system demands then he should be fired. That third pairing had no one that could move the puck the way it was supposed to be moved. Thats where missing pronger hurts you the most...he could thread a pass between three players. God i miss him and im sure lavy does also....
- Philly1980

I agree and disagree at the same time. Lavi didn't have much choice but to keep playing the system he has. His players are young, and new to the team. Making adjustments with all the injuries, new players, etc.... might have caused more trouble then it would have helped. And Pronger is missed ALOT in Lavi's system. That is why I think the Flyers need to get that puck moving young defender. But I give Lavi 1 more season with these young guys before even thinking about a new coach. If the Flyers cant fix it by next season, then we need a new coach. Especially if the new playoff format starts that we have to go through 2 Atlantic division teams....

I don't know why people view that comment as a slap to the players. I think Carter and Richards and very talented players. Very important cogs to the wheel. I love Ritchie's drive. but that said, I think they are better support players. that is not a slap at them at all.

Congrats to Hexy and Gags......

You know here is the Lupul tweet that pissed me off:

Joffrey Lupul ‏@JLupul
Guess Richards and Carter are good enough to get the job done after all. Really happy for those guys.. Sorry Philly

To that i have to say one thing....they were good enough to be on a team that wins the cup....but they werent good enough to lead a team to the cup.... those boys can thank Kopitar, Brown, and Quick for their rings

- Philly1980

indeed. they are not lead dogs and that was the mistake that homer wanted to correct. I was still rooting for LA and happy they won. in time, the trade will have proven to be beneficial for both teams...in fact, it already has.

Yes. Yes. But if you remember when I was saying that I would rather play those teams, a lot of people were saying that it doesnt matter because they are all good teams. That might be so, but that has nothing to do with the way the Flyers match up with those teams.

Didnt they adjust in march? They werent a scoring juggernaut but they were miles better in their own zone.

Got it. So no adjustments are allowed because it changes the system.

The 9-8 debacle against the Jets is still etched upon my mind.

There's such a need for continuity and chemistry in this sport. The coaches spend the entire preseason and beginning of the year trying to get the team to buy into a style of play and to have it become second nature on the ice.

It's usually more counter-productive to try to change course mid-season, especially under the same coach. They had to roll with the system they worked on all year, boom or bust.

Changes can be implemented this preseason.

I agree totally. Your building during the Season. To completely scrap that and play another way would likely lead to disaster.

when one team prepares better or more for a certain team, no matter what you do sometimes, it's not going ot matter. this is what happened when the devils played the flyers.
the kings had time to prepare for the devils style and for the most part dominated the series.

True. Especially with the young kids. But they have to adress it in this off-season. If Lavi can't find a way to beat these teams this year, I would like to find someone that can.

I think your taking my adjustments to another level. We're not changing the entire system. If teams dont make adjustments and tweek things then they become stale and easy to defend and play against. My opinion of course. Oh well. Moving on.

HOLMGREN PRESS CONFERENCE

This morning after the Kings Cup Win, Flyers General Manager Paul Holmgren held a brief Press Conference. He was asked one question by Flyers insider Tim Panaccio before concluding the conference.

"Paul, How do you feel about watching such former young Flyers such as Simon Gagne, Mike Richards, Jeff Carter, Justin Williams, Ruslan Fedotenko, Patrick Sharp and Ben Eager."

"We won't be trading anymore young players. If our young players are destined to win the Stanley Cup, it will be here as Philadelphia Flyers. We will no longer be handing out Cups to other teams"

In all honesty, this Cup Win for the Kings I feel could only be used as a motivation tool to better the Philadelphia Flyers. If a player such as Weber is available, we gotta push hard for him and finally get over the top. We have a really good team. We may only need one key move to get over that hump.

Congratulations to Simon Gagne, Jeff Carter, Mike Richards, Justin Williams, Colin Fraser, John Stevens and Ron Hextall.

Does anyone know... Are there any teams out there with a surplus of young defenders that need offense. I know Nashville does and that is why Weber is such a favorite rumor around here. Same with Toronto, though I'm not trading JVR for Schenn. Rangers do, but why would be trade with an Atlantic team rival unless nothing else is available...

Does St. Louis or Colorado need young scoring? Can Colorado afford to trade E.Johnson if Coburn or Meszaros was involved?

Phoenix. If you want to try and get Yandle. Not sure if you want to add him though.

I would love Yandle, but I think Pitt is going to trade Staal for him... I dont know if we can match that price, and if Yandle would be worth it.

What about Myers? Do you think JVR and Coburn plus picks could land him. He is signed long term to a reasonable cap hit.

Not sure if Buffalo wants to move him. Staal is a beast and if offered to Phoenix thats a no brainer to add him.
