Richie and cartsey loft the cup last night and today it's raining and dreary in Philadelphia. Coincidence?

JVR to LA for quick

Now the trick is making that kind of play happen consistently.

I see a big step forward for the flyers next year. The kings had a young core for a while. The flyers just revamped their core. I dont think the flyers are far behind.

Quick is not on an EL deal. And I believe he is older then 23.
- MJL

And the point remains the same, Bryzgalov is a veteran with a huge contract and a ton of pressure, while Quick is a young goaltender with a small contract with very little pressure.

Pretty easy to comprehend.

I'm looking at the Kings defense and I dont see how they have more talent. Thats the part that makes me wonder. Like its been said sometimes finding the right mix and executing is more important then talent.

In no way am I saying the Kings dont have a nice core of defenseman, I just think the Flyers are more talented.

Doughty is head and shoulders above anyone we have though.

- stveshdy

Because it's not just the defensemen. Look at LA's roster. Mike Richards was a Selke finalist. Jarrett Stoll and Colin Fraser are very good two way centers. Guys like Trevor Lewis, Brad Richardson and even Simon Gagne are good two way wingers that are responsible in their own end.

The Kings also play a very solid and responsible defensive system. Not saying that the system needs a massive overhaul, but it is a factor. The difference is, the Kings execute the defensive aspects of their system better than the Flyers did.

I'm not banking on it. Don't see much changing. Most of their forwards are going to be the same.

I think its up to Lavy to tweek his system.

And thats why I dont see anything changing for the Flyers. Their forwards are basically going to be the same group. Maybe a year of experience helps out and they learn to play better in their own zone but I dont see it happening. Believe me I want to stay positive but the way the Flyers play its not about defense and more about offense. I dont see a change coming.

And prior to this year, both had been ripped for playoff struggles. Like Tim Thomas was before 2011. That was kind of the point. Despite Quick's struggles in past postseasons, LA had faith and Quick delivered. The Bruins had faith and Thomas delivered.

Will see. I really believe Lavi will not tweek his system. He has won a cup using this system. He knows it can work. The players have to execute and play responsible hockey in their own end. The Flyers forwards are not very good in their own end. Age could be a factor with experience, but I dont see how their is going to be a drastic change for next year.

The Flyers will be fine next year. With the additions of Suter and Parise, we will be favorites to win the cup....

The Kings are similar to the Pens IMO. They were bad for a long time, got good draft picks, have a lot of players on ELD and were able to make trades for role players because of their cap space. Kudos to them.
- Jimmygrazz

Who did they have on ELC's? I thought they just proved that you can win without having stars on ELC's.

I think he has to tweek. Anytime they face a defensive team they get rocked. I think in march they kept it simple for Bryz's sake. It obviously payed off. I say go with what works.

A year or two of experience when you're dealing with a group of players that are mostly between 19-24 years of age can be huge. Look at the key forwards on the Kings. How many are 19? How many are 22?

Brown, Carter, Fraser and Richards are all 27. Stoll and Penner are 29. Williams is 30. Gagne's 32. The only one that falls in the range of the Flyers young core is Kopitar at age 24.

Just a hunch, but I would think that last night annoyed Ed Snider, and he mandates Holmgren make a splash on July 1.

If Snider did force the trades of Carter and Richards, he should be annoyed at himself

I thinks it pretty simple to see that the Kings were the best team. They did everything well, but also had luck on their side. Here is a crazy fact.. They used the same 6 d-men the entire playoffs and only 22 guys total. Let's see them stay that healthy next year.

Problem is we say this every year after a new team wins the cup. We continue to compare our team to the winner. When in reality we are nothing like the winning cup team. Teams change from year to year. Will the Flyers get better defensively? I understand what your saying but theres a good chance that the forwards dont improve defensively. Theres also a chance they do. I think they need to start holding the players accountable. If your not going to play at both ends of the ice then there needs to be consequences. Mistakes are going to happen over an entire season but when the same issues continue to happen from the beginning to the end something has to be done imo. So I'll stay patient with the young kids (who I think are better than the vets at both ends) and see what happens next year.

True. I know how badly Snider wants to win, and you have to figure he isn't going to show the most patience in the world at 80+ yrs of age.
