They wouldn't move either for Nash during the season last year. I wouldn't trade one of them and JvR for Nash now, either.
- Jsaquella

You know more then the rest of us then.....You can't trust Tim Pannacio when it comes to names....But the Flyers obviously have the bullets to make a deal.
as far as what they would give last year....that was last year....I am pretty sure the Flyers wouldn't have moved Richards just after the loss to Chicago in the finals....But things change.
maybe something has changed the Flyers minds on what Columbus asked for....or maybe Columbus changed the players they are asking for....We may find out.

No chance that deal nets the Flyers Weber. I bet Nashville would want Schenn, Couturier, Coburn, and a # 1 for Weber. I think Poile would be somewhat reluctant to take on JVR, being that every dollar in Nashville counts.
- PLindbergh31

Nashville might ask for both Schenn and Couts, but they wont get it. Lets just say JVR isn't in the deal. I could see Schenn, Voracek, Meszaros, 2 first for Weber and Radulov.

Not Weber, but as a trade for Nash.

Weber's going to cost an arm and a leg

- Jsaquella

No question. If I was Nashville I would resign Suter and trade Weber. The haul they get from moving Weber they can really get better in a hurry.

Aaron Portzline, the excellent beat writer for the Jackets called the JvR-Nash rumor totally bogus.

If Poile wasn;t bullpoopting when he said that the Preds will be a cap team and not a budget team, I'd keep both

That is certainly an option as well. But they have had Suter and Weber for what 6 years now, and they haven't won but I believe two playoff series.

It might be hard for Nashville to attract FA's, so trading Weber for a talent laden package makes some sense.

Jeff Carter and James Wizniewski were supposed to do that this year
- Jsaquella

Carter was the worst option to match with Nash. I know that is what was supposed to happen. But now Carter is gone, and soon Nash will be too. There is no-one to build around now, and they need to start somewhere, cause a full rebuild will kill the fans. Again, that is why if I were dealing with the Flyers I would want JVR as the top peice to the deal. I would also ask for Schenn or Couts, but negotiate down to either Read or Simmonds.

If I'm Columbus I would take:
JVR
Read or Simmonds
Cousins
Bourdon
First rounder.

And if I'm the Flyers, I would think hard about it since your only giving up 2 roster players....

Per CSN Philly's Sarah Baicker, Holmgren said reason for delay in JvR surgery is infection in his foot and called speculation "way off base"

True, but if they're suddenly going to spend $70mm, attracting good FA's might be easier. The tight budget perception was always a factor in adding FA's

Wow. This infection in his foot must be serious. With the Flyers injury luck it will be amputated by the draft.

I agree. I think you can land some nice offense for Weber, and put someone like a Meszaros or Coburn in on defense to play a physical shut down role with Suter.

Really Nashville could probally get an entire offensive line plus someone like Coburn for Weber. Hard to turn that down if you can get Suter resigned.

Some strains of MRSA can be really hard to get rid of, and in some cases they will want to wait for a good while afterward to ensure it's full gone

What is the NHL policy on cybernetic replacements? Can we give JVR a robot foot with rocket powered skates, that can also squit oil out of the heel to trip up defense, and flames out the toes?

if they are going to spend to the cap, then yes they can attract some free agents. I will believe it when I see it. They have never done so before. Poile did say that, so we shall see if he is just blowing smoke or not.

Hmm.. I didn't read much about this infection. I figured it would be simply cleared up in short order with antibiotics.

It may be....But Im sure Howson doesn't call Portzline before he calls Paul Holmgren!!! I heard all last year that the Flyers had NO interest in Nash....then low and behold their GM, head of player personell and the team president showed up in Paul Holmgrens box for a game!!!
who knows? not me for sure lol...., but probably not Aaron Portzline as well !!

I'm not opposed to trading anyone if it improves the team. Coming off a season where he was injured, and with his cap hit kicking in this year, trading him now makes little sense. His value is at an all-time low imo. Doesn't mean he can't increase it during the season.

I agree
I think both players value have taken a hit, so why not trade them for each other?

Make a deal to help the club...i'm not into this team won with this trade and vice versa. Deals are made to help the club out, sometimes the deal works out and sometimes the deal doesn't...

You trade for your NEED. The Flyers have a lot of offensive depth so you move some to upgrade defensively where they need help (Timonen and Pronger era ending/ended).

Yup. Trading offense for offense for a slight improvement isn't going to make much of a difference. Trading a surplus, to acquire a player that addresses an area of need is what the course should be.

This is so goofy. All Eskin said was that the surgery delay was holding up a trade. No mention of it being because JVR doesn't want to be traded or that he is trying to torpedo anything.

Wasn't it already reported that JVR had a foot infections weeks ago?

It is amazing in this town what an innocuous statement like Eskins can do to this fan base. And that is exactly how Eskin wants it.

But on that trade subject.......Please God no!. Nash at 7.8 until Armageddon will kill this teams cap structure.
