To be honest, Giroux is going to get his regardless if Nash is here or not.
- MJL

He is, and deservedly so, but let him set the benchmark, not Nash.

I'm keeping JVR this summer unless its in a potential deal for Weber. Not enough of a track record for this guy. He is locked up at 4.25 per which could be a sweet deal for the flyers if he can stay healthy
- Just5

JvR should only be used to acquire a top tier defenseman. Will any become available who knows but I'm willing to wait before dealing him for another forward.

What does an NHL father do for a sons defense ???? For every Sean Couturier there's a Brett Hull.

And so what he was on a 40 goal pace......he fined with 11 ...which is a 21 goal pace...

- landros 2

He also got injured, which basically ruined his season.

Couturier's dad was a grinder, had to bust his ass to make it to the NHL, and had to learn to play a full ice game to do so. Brett Hull's dad was Bobby Hull, and Brett got his genes and offensive sense. Both Hulls knew where to go to score goals. Big difference from a father who had to make himself an all around player to a guy who was a legendary goal scorer.

When did I say straight up....but then again he is the a future John Leclair by some accounts.....so far he's been ordinary. What has he done ???? Big deal he scored 21 goals and then and had a career high 39 points...he's not 20 ....he's now 23
If the flyers pay 20 goal scorer's or crappy average defencemen like Carle 5 mill a year, then they will be in worse shape then paying Rick Nash 7.8... So maybe the flyers are lucky and your real name is David Poile .....that's about the only way he gets traded straight up for weber.....

- landros 2

No. JvR and LeClair had comparable career developmental paths to the NHL.

Nobody's saying that JvR will be LeClair, just saying to be patient and not use the ridiculous excuse "He looks disinterested out there".

Hes still a young kid (thats obvious) and his development is still ongoing. He has the tools to become a very good NHL player. I don't see the Flyers trading him unless they feel their getting a big upgrade over what they have. I'm also hoping that if he is traded its for a defenseman.

Nothing ridiculous about that comment....there are nights when it's tough to remember if he ever played....and yes Bobby Hull scored goals, but was one of the best 'all around players' of all time.....

A line with Giroux, Nash and Jagr would be simply amazing.

Well, the Flyers themselves called it a torn labrum on May 19.

- bmeltzer

It's probably just a bad bruise, not a tear. Or maybe a strain. Or a sprain. Or...

it's the dreaded labrumnal virus, for which there is no cure. Damn, there goes our chance for Webber. We're screwed.

I'd prefer seeing a few tweaks. Get a good 4th/5th defenseman with an edge. Get a gritty 4th line vet who can win draws or has a Stanley Cup ring. Get a solid veteran backup goalie, and maybe move up in the draft or try to get extra picks for Bob and other loose parts.

No need to make wholesale changes

It would look nice. Just think the Flyers defense is more of a need. Offense was in the Top 3 scoring last year and the Defense was in the Bottom 10.

Thats with JvR basically not playing all year.

Or, it was simply a misdiagnosis. Those happen.

I once dated a girl who was Miss Diagnosis 2003. It didn't last though - too many mixed signals. She was too hard to read...

Actually, Bobby Hull was a legendary offensive player, never really noted for his defense. That would be his longtime teammate, Stan Mikita.

And yes it is ridiculous to ignore the similarities in the developmental paths of JvR and LeClair, and also flat out ignorant to ignore that a lot of the same knocks applied to JvR now, were applied to LeClair when he was a 22-24 year old in Montreal.

I'd be more for getting extra picks. There are a few players I'd move up for but feel better sitting still or gaining more picks.

I think the defense is a concern. Homer knows he has no Pronger (which basically been that way for two years) and Timonen is on the verge of being done (plus injuries). To me this is a NEED for this team. They have to address it. Coburn, Grossmann, Mez and Carle (if resigned) is not a bad four to start with but they could use another very good defenseman.

Who is New Jersey's Pronger? Who was Vancouver's? You need a good top 6, but not necessarily a Weber.

Good point, then the Flyers should go after Schultz on the free agent period.

You need a right handed d-man and forwards doing a better job of coming back in the defensive zone.

That being said if Weber is available, Homer has to try and get him because he is an elite talent in this league regardless of position.

I think its also fair to say Vancouver and NJ (still playing) didnt win the Stanley Cup. I'm not saying to add a Weber but we could go in circles on how to build a defensive core or who to blame. One week its the goalie, next defense, the next forwards.

Its something the Flyers will consider I am sure of that. Homer will look into every single option.

Yup, You know now the 4 d-men alone I've brought up for the draft. Have some forwards in mind too.

Actually....no....Bobby Hull was not a one diminutional player.....back in the day....you didn't play if you didn't play responsible....Bobby used to joke he taught Brett to score....but had nothing to do with his defense .

I see where you were going.....but I just don't share your JVR appraisal.....that was like pinning the Bobby Clarke moniker on. Mike Richards.

Just saying that they don't need a flat out stud, so long as the rest of the team chips in and plays well

I agree. Sometimes you can win a cup without a stud defenseman.
