If they deal him at the draft for picks, you know Homer is going shopping on July 1st

It's not crazy to think it could happen.

hopefull the Flyers front office realizes they don't need to panic, just get a defensemen or be patient until another one becomes available. It's not like they can't compete with what they have now. Every year players become available for whatever reason.
- JoeRussomanno

But with the scenario we are talking about, you are not losing much to get these all-star players in their prime and still have the young guys we are all excited about.

Agreed. But we know the Flyers can be very impatient when it comes to a need.

First off you're forgetting that the Flyers are locked into a deal for another 5-6 years at that hit. Whereas with Jagr its a year to year scenario. Second JVR has only had one injury riddled season, that's hardly injury prone. Furthermore his potential is to be as good as Nash. It has only been mentioned ad nauseaum that he was on pace for well over 30 goals in November before the injury bug bit him.

You guys want to get Nash go ahead but when we don't have money to keep the youth and fix the real problems in the lineup don't say you weren't warned.

- JoeRussomanno

Your point on JVR only holds water if he actually justifies the contract.....he has hardly come close yet.....injury prone may be a bit strong....and if it were just one ...maybe two injuries last year....but he was hurt all year. When he was healthy for most of 2010/11 he was wildly inconsistent.
I am shocked how many people come to this guys defense ....when clearly he has been a disappointing 2nd over all pick.
That said I would be the first to hope I am wrong and he develops into Rick Nash type......but that upside borders on delusional....

Well, the Flyers themselves called it a torn labrum on May 19.

Or re-sign Gill.

So none of those players are NHL defensemen.....got it.

I guess you didn't get it. Because there was an adjective there to quantify them. And the adjective used was proven. Which was clearly stated.

You can make the same statement for any player justifying a contract, no one knows what the future is going to hold. JVR already has a 20+ goal season and iirc won a team skills competition. Wildly inconsistent is nothing new for a young power forward.

What you just wrote above is the classic example of fans being impatient. Injuries are bound to happen and do happen. Any player is susceptible to them and the few that don't are just that few. So 2010-2011 he was wildly inconsistent and still put up 21 goals. By what you are saying is all he needs to do is become more consistent which is nothing out of the realm or ordinary for a player in his early 20's. Remember he didn't have the time to groom in the Juniors either, he went from NJ highschool hockey to UNH to the NHL and still has a 20 goal season under his belt when guys with better upbringing struggle to do so.

It would if you passed up deals at the draft "hoping" to sign both Suter and Parise, but if they fall through it wouldnt hurt to try.

What I would like is to have that number 1 d-man in town before July 1. That way you can show Parise that the Flyers are the team you want to be on, now and in the future.

- RooNosHockey

Well Holmgren has shown he won't hesitate to trade for a UFA's rights to negotiate before July 1.

A balanced team would look more promising IMO. Plus with all the offensive pieces that could take ice time from Parise. But its just my opinion.

If I were Homer, after I got that number 1 d-man I would tell Parise that Lavi plays the system that offensive guys like him have been dying to play in. Tell him that no-one is more committed to winning then the Flyers, and we are in a position to do it for the foreseeable future, and having a guy like Parise would be just great.

- RooNosHockey

And Parise would say that's all well and good, but show me the money!

Has anyone considered the JVR for Nash rumor to be part of a three team trade? I know it would require more players/picks but something like...

Philly trades JVR, Bob, 1st, 1st ... gets Weber
Columbus trades Nash ... gets JVR, Bob, 1st
Nashville trades Weber ... gets Nash, 1st

It's obviously just speculation. But the reason I bring it up is usually when there's smoke, there tends to be fire. Regardless, it's still fun to have pipe dreams

It is way too premature to label JVR a disappointing 2nd overall pick.

I personally don't feel that Bobrovsky has as much value as some people think. I don't see a GM trading for him as a potential starter.

And I also don't see Nashville being satisfied with that return for Weber.
