How bout a package from the Rangers that included Stepan, Staal and Kreider. Would that be a fair package for Nash?
- PLindbergh31

You're nuts if you think the Rangers would give up those 3 in a deal.

Why is it holding up the deal? Doesn't Nashville know hes getting the surgery and will be fine by camp? Don't get why this would be an issue other than the league not allowing it because of injury (wont Nashville just let him pass the physical?).
- stveshdy

JVR is refusing to get the surgery, that's the problem. Nashville is demanding he get it done, but he's refusing and thus essentially holding up a deal.

You can technically play with a torn labrum, and right now he's firmly against getting it because he doesn't want to move.

If Homer truely believes thats the case then you look to add to your 5th-6th guys (3rd pairing). Wait until next offseason when Enstrom, Edler and White are UFA's. See what happens with Weber also.

Something to think about. Hartnell's contract is up after next year. I believe Bill wrote a blog or commented how forwards like Hartnell have a tendency to have diminshing value in their 30s. Maybe Nash (turns 28) this month is the replacement for Hartnell long-term. Nash is considered a power forward, but plays a different game then Hartnell. The organization may want a little more reassurance then hope JVR will be G's sidekick for next year and beyond. Just a thought.

It may be....But Im sure Howson doesn't call Portzline before he calls Paul Holmgren!!! I heard all last year that the Flyers had NO interest in Nash....then low and behold their GM, head of player personell and the team president showed up in Paul Holmgrens box for a game!!!
who knows? not me for sure lol...., but probably not Aaron Portzline as well !!

- landros 2

Where did you hear that? The Flyers had a well documented interest in Nash last year.

Absolutely.

Howson even came to Philly to meet with Homer about Nash.

Interesting. If this trade were to go down I would expect to see a lot more than JvR going back the other way.

A line of Nash-Giroux-Hartnell has the makings of Legion of Doom 2.0. I'd love to see him on the same line as Scotty.

Yea, this makes little sense. A player does not have to pass a physical to be traded. If the Flyers are forward with the injury and Nashville decides to accept the deal the league would approve it. All that need to happen is the Flyers say JVR needs surgery, and Nashville has to say, we know and accept this...

I'd be okay with acquiring Nash, if Bryz is going the other way.

you are sounding like you know something but really the CoC needs you to provide sources and/or links. Who is behind curtain number #21

Ok, can we get a ref to demand the source? I'm curious now.... CoC states a source must be given.

No doubt that would happen next year, I was speaking more long-term after Hartnell's contract is up next year. G is a top 5 player in the league, the forwards on the team are good, but I wouldn't consider any of them elite. JVR might get there, but Nash is an elite player with a bad contract on a crappy team.

I don't believe a word Homer says anymore. He told everyone that Richards was the Captain they always wanted and then traded him. He told Carter (rumor) that he wasn't going to be traded then shipped him to Columbus. Homer would never come out and say anything other than what you posted.
- stveshdy

See this is the problem. There is a huge difference between commenting on player movement, and an injury situation. Two completely different things. It may have been very well true, that what Holmgren said at the time about the two players was what he felt at the time. Things change. GM's change their minds and reverse direction. Happens all the time.

I'll give you an example. Right now all the information is that the Flyers want to bring back Matt Carle. And Carle wants to be back. And there is the foundation for a deal in place. But the NHL draft is approaching. Where a lot of wheeling and dealing takes place. If Holmgren is presented with a move that he feels makes the team better, and will preclude re-signing Carle, he'll likely do it. Does that mean he lied about the Carle situation. People are asking the GM to see into the future.

Oh the irony of you having to provide a source while Ek doesn't. I will give you the benefit of the doubt as it makes things more interesting.

JVR is seriously holding up the deal and Nashville is becoming impatient, that's what I've been told. Your choice to believe.

He wants to stay in Philly, but that won't be happening. Even if they fail to get Weber, they will go hard after Parise or Suter.

No I dont. However, Richards and Carter were already signed to long-term cap friendly hits. You dont just change course unless there's issues imo. Why even shop those guys around? Like I said I dont believe a word Homer says.

Did you hear who else may be going in that deal?
