What Homer said is a blatant lie.

I'm hearing JVR is refusing to have surgery so he can't be dealt, right now he's part of a Weber package that includes multiple draft picks, Read, and Cousins.

I think JVR would fit nice with what Columbus needs/wants. They need to rebuild with promising young players, and they want a face to sell. I doubt Columbus will get both for Nash. After all, if your another NHL franchise, if you have a young stud why would you trade him for Nash?

JVR has the name and the potential to be an NHL stud. Plus he is young enough he can be a major key in a rebuild, and is already signed for a long time, so contract wont be an issue for years to come... So I do think that JVR would be what Columbus would be looking for.

But like I said earlier, I really wouldn't want it. But if Homer does make this trade, I will feel ok, as I'm sure it all works into his plan somehow...

- RooNosHockey

As much as I beleive and have faith in JVR as a player. Columbus can't risk a miss on a trade of Nash. So I think they need a more established player in return. And if Howson is willing to deal him for JVR, Schenn or Couturier better be coming along wiht JVR, or Howson's job coould be seriously in jeapordy.

I hope the Rangers give up Kreider + to get Nash. That one will come back to bite them...

I don't see the Flyers targeting a high priced forward, unless as someone said, they trade pieces to help on the blueline. I think both Pennsylvania teams will be looking for the same players in FA, should be interesting.

you know i dont understand all the fuss about kreider......i want to see how energised he is after 82 games.

Say what you want, but I've been told Homer is currently in Nashville and their priority is Weber, not Nash.

I'm not advocating a Nash trade, but at the same token can the Flyers really expect career years from Hartnell, Simmonds, and possible Read again? There is hope a healthy JVR and Schenn will help offset the difference of the career years, but who really knows.

I haven't crunched numbers, but it probably is entirely possible to resign Carle and Jagr. Trade for Nash (depending on parts) and sign a Garrison or Wideman in free agency. The team will be able to go 10% over the cap and place Pronger on LTIR (which sucks) and waive Walker again (only one more year )

Finally, as much there is help needed on back end, there really might be nothing available to trade. Weber, Seabrook, Subban, Bogosian, Enstrom, etc. just might not be available, period. The Flyers never stand pat in the offseason, they're not going to change now.

- ravishingone

Yes, I do think the Flyers expect similar years out of Simmonds and Read. With Hartnell, I could see him with a few less goals but a similar season to last year is realistic.

With Simmonds and Read they should continue to progress and improve year over year, they are still young and learning the NHL game.

Playing devil's advocate, what if none of the #1 d-men are available right now, then what? Does Homer stand pat? What role does the forwards play better in their own zone, contribute to the chances given up by the team? Maybe Homer believes on paper the d core is fine especially with guys like Bourdon and Guftsy gaining another year of experience to contribute or add solid depth.
- ravishingone

If Homer truely believes thats the case then you look to add to your 5th-6th guys (3rd pairing). Wait until next offseason when Enstrom, Edler and White are UFA's. See what happens with Weber also.

Seabrook is signed long term to a friendly hit of 5.8 per year. With the cap going up his deal looks better and better. Not sure why the Hawks would even consider making him available.

i'm staying away from playing armchair GM...

I like the current group but they broke down and no one can really step in and fully take their place. They need to find a replacement for Kimmo either this year or next.
On the roster their are only a few untradeables...

- phi1671

To me there are no untradables, just guys that would cost too much to trade. For example if Pittsburgh offered you Corsby and Malkin for Giroux and Couturier... are you telling me you wouldnt do it?

Couturier, Schenn, Simmonds, Vorecek, Read.......All players whom I sure we can agree have better days ahead, all have proven they can play in this league....Thats huge......As far as rumors on which players are involved ....take it with a grain of salt....just throwing out names.....But if both Schenn and Couturier are going to be centers then I would think they will fall in behind Giroux for 2 and 3 in the future....I think both kids could develop into # 1s
- landros 2

I wasan't considering them to be prospects as they are already full time players on the team and have a season under their belt.

Obviously it doesnt matter what I think b/c Homer is the GM but my only untouchable is Giroux. Couturier is to an extent but if I was offered a ridiculous offer I would seriously consider it. All other players are available.

JVR is seriously holding up the deal and Nashville is becoming impatient, that's what I've been told. Your choice to believe.

He wants to stay in Philly, but that won't be happening. Even if they fail to get Weber, they will go hard after Parise or Suter.

He may not be available unless you make the call and blow them away with an offer. You just never know what a team/GM is willing to do. I guarantee that 95% of the GM's didn't think Homer would trade his two stars (Richards and Carter).

Carter was the worst option to match with Nash. I know that is what was supposed to happen. But now Carter is gone, and soon Nash will be too. There is no-one to build around now, and they need to start somewhere, cause a full rebuild will kill the fans. Again, that is why if I were dealing with the Flyers I would want JVR as the top peice to the deal. I would also ask for Schenn or Couts, but negotiate down to either Read or Simmonds.

If I'm Columbus I would take:
JVR
Read or Simmonds
Cousins
Bourdon
First rounder.

And if I'm the Flyers, I would think hard about it since your only giving up 2 roster players....

- RooNosHockey

If Howson takes that deal he should be immediately fired. They have no one to build around so the top peice back is going to be JVR to start the rebuild. I like JVR but Howson has to do much better then that.

How bout a package from the Rangers that included Stepan, Staal and Kreider. Would that be a fair package for Nash?

Why is it holding up the deal? Doesn't Nashville know hes getting the surgery and will be fine by camp? Don't get why this would be an issue other than the league not allowing it because of injury (wont Nashville just let him pass the physical?).
