Homer is willing to take risks, that we know. He also has no fear about handing other teams draft picks like their candy. When the Flyers see a NEED they attack it and go for the best possible upgrade. - stveshdy
I would prefer he trade a little more like his predecessor and stockpile picks while making his moves, but Homer has been more aggressive than Bob Clarke (especially at the outset of his time as GM because of the mess he inherited in 2007).
We say this all the time, if the right deal comes across most players become available. - stveshdy
True, but do you see that deal being the right deal for Chicago? We know what Seabrooke is. He is a proven commodity. As much as we all think about JVR and his potential, in the deal you proposed, what is the proven commodity that Chicago is getting?

Chicago isnt getting a proven commodity in JvR. They are getting the #2 pick that has a lot of potential and can be a stud for future years.
Maybe this allows them to move Kane (with his drama) and add another defenseman.
They could use both those moves to clear alittle space and add a legit #1 goalie.

I'm not a Carle hater but not a big fan either.
The question is value for his production versus the alternatives. None of us are truly clear on the alternatives.
I could live with Coburn, Mez, Timmo and Grossman as my top 4. With MAB in the mix. Problem with that truthfully is one injury and you are toast. But Carle is here, so be it.
I would actually prefer to see the no major moves as I predicted and keep some flexibility towards the trade deadline.

Im not a hater either. If there were an upgrade at the position that cost the same or a little more then Id be all for it, but there's not at the present time. Suter can go somewhere else. I refuse to get sucked into dreaming of Weber, which is the one Id want anyway. I don't like the idea of Suter without Weber, but I am confident with Weber minus Suter.......but again its not happenin, so lets just sign Carle and focus on a Forward/Draft/Backup Goalie/that pornstar at the Kings game
Since the NHL Draft is so close this year, me and a Friend would really like to go to the first round picks. Does anyone know if you can buy tickets to this or not?

In Pete we trust - Giroux_Is_God
my favorite part of that whole scene is the lady behind the glass towards the left (behind Bylsma) in the black Penguins shirt who was throwing the whole hand shaking bad ass thing like anyone could actually hear her. I'm sure whatever it was that she was yelling was brilliant.
Tossing in a third rounder and Gus doesn't excite me at all. The top end of the deal would have to be much better.
But I like the way you think. - 77rams
You'd be getting a bona fide top pairing NHL defenseman that can play in all situations. He's not Weber, but he's at the next level down. And would be well worth JVR in my opinion.

Even with no major moves, there isn't going to be much flexibility towards the deadline. The Flyers will be using LTIR.

Its a risky game with Carle to me.
Personally I do not agree with going out with the same defensive core again.
You are playing with big fire as Kimmo is aging and what happen if he goes down? I do not for one second believe there is one d-man on the team that can be that #1.
Its all about how the players combine. I believe paying Carle 5 million will not allow the team to get that true #1 they need.
Push hard after Suter.
There is all this talk about finding a replacement for Kimmo when his contract is done next season. The only player who can even come close to being a #1 is Edler who is UFA next season. The Canucks are not going to let him go.
I suppose they could deal Meszaros. However you do that and you lose even more grit on the back end, where its desperately lacking already. Again, its all about the combination.
