Resigning Carle IS definitely a no brainer considering he isn't asking top dollar. This is huge for the Flyers. Ink him up for next season and see what Timonen wants to do (Will he retire?)

Didn't get to post yesterday but I am still leaning towards the Flyers not resigning Jagr. If the players really want him back, sigh ok I guess I would just hope he doesn't get a raise or its minimal (3.5). For all the praise he gets about being a team player and such the thing I'm disturbed about is his unwillingness to move off the top line. He shouldn't have that kind of authority. You want to play for the Flyers or for Giroux? I'm guessing the extra $1.5 in cap ceiling from what Holmgren thought was going to be $69 mil may play into the Flyers decision.

Damn are there going to be a heap of overpaid free agents this summer. I suppose we should be happy were getting Carle and Jagr back at reasonable hits.

This is exactly what I was saying a month ago. I said I wouldnt sign Carle for anything over 5.5 million. I would rather let him walk then over-pay. He is a value at 4.75, I can even say that I would be happy with 5. I think 5.5 million is a slight overpayment, but worth it because he already knows the system, and we know what we get out of him. Anything over that is too much, and anyone that thinks he would be getting 6 million is over-valueing what he does.

Let's just say a little different than what we thought after that TB game late in the season

In regards to his turnovers- Bill is right. He ISN'T a "turnover machine" like we call him. He really isn't at all. But the problem I think is that he makes those stupid turnovers at the absolute worst times, so they appear...how should I say this....glaring- to us as fans.

He might not make a lot of turnovers, but it seems like the ones he does make are those "memorable" ones that we don't forget. Hence us calling him a turnover machine.

Just my thoughts...and my blabber.

I would like for them to sign Carle for $4.75-5M. With Timonen coming off the books next summer the Flyers will have Coburn, Grossmann, Mez, and Carle (all still young) locked up. Thats a solid four but next offseason use the money to add a legit stud if possible. I'm willing to wait another year for a defenseman IF they can land Weber (trade), Edler, or Enstrom. I would prefer to add another defenseman with size if possible.

I think Bill said everything just right. Carle isn't really great at anything, but he is too hard to replace considering our currrent defense and cap situation. And I think Bill's salary is perfect for what Carle brings to the table.

I asked this the other day, but I couldnt stick around to read the answers. Why is Enstrom available. Is it because he doesnt want to resign in Winnigpeg, or becuase Winnipeg cant afford him?

Because if they couldnt afford him, then instead of Enstrom, I would think about adding Byfuglien. What do you guys think?

Question first for Bill (possibly Jsaquella):

How does the Flyers' post-season surgery list compare to the rest of the teams in the league? Everyone hates to use injuries as an excuse but I am curious to know if the Flyers' list was above or below average.

A couple of month's ago, I had floated the concept of Pronger having value to a team struggling to hit the cap floor. In the end, the concensus (and my own initial conclusion) was that such a trade would be negated by the league either by the inabilty of the player traded to pass a physical (which may be a requirement to prevent a team from trading a player who is injured) or as a circumvention of the spirit of the CBA.

Like Christmas came a day late since Bill's blog on Wednesday promised:

COMING TOMORROW: Matt Carle, more 2012 Draft talk, the Flyers Alumi Golf Invitational, and more.
- Bill Meltzer

I awaited Carle talk of epic proportions yesterday and stocked up on popcorn Wednesday night. Thankfully, I did not prematurely pop it.

WTF is the big deal.

Jagr will be back.
Carle will be back.
No major signings or trades will hapen.

We can opine all day on Carle - but we might as well analyze the entire team, because they're all as good as signed and will play.

I don't really want Jagr back but it is time to move on.

Zero interest in Byfuglien. I think it's just because Enstrom is approaching UFA.

Not to mention Pronger still being owed 19M.

I would prefer a d-man of size as well. And a forward with size as well.

How can one move on when he (Jagr) is not moving on?

As to opining on Carle all day, I am sure as a group we both can and will.

I hope the rumors of his moving are incorrect so that he spends that money locally, improving the economy here.

It wouldn't surprise me to see some changes made. I learned my lesson last year, when I said there was no way Carter or Richards would be traded. I think we can almost bet on something happening.

I think every team in the NHL adds a piece in the offseason. Its almost impossible to keep the same exact team.
