wouldnt that be a GREAT reason for the islanders to take him on board?
(btw, has he officially become an assistant coach yet?) - LetsGoIsles
Maybe it will be, like I said I'm not upset that he was hired. I just don't want some hack developing our prospects for us in the Bridge.
I'm not sure if it's official or not, but a few legitimate people have reported it so I can't find a reason to believe it's not imminent, if not already official. |

Just to throw a wrench into your thinking.. Uncle Lou hires the assistants in NJ
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
It was reported long ago uncle Lou does not even allow Devils assistants to speak to the media.
And Wang goes to Knicks games with Lamoriello and Dolan between them.
Of course what get's no play here is if the Isles assistants were in fact fired that means Wang has to spend money for them to stay home. Like he did Gordon, Nolan, Stirling and a few other Isles assistants.
But why notice that. |

I think we're just giving our initial reactions on the topic of the blog... Montreal hired Therrien as a coach the other day...I'm sure there are people on their blogs debating about whether they agree or disagree with that decision before he's coached a single game since the hire too. - UIF
Different because former Islander player turned rookie gm Marc Bergevin re-hired someone Montreal already fired after this stupidity over what language a coach speaks.
This was after Calgary dusted off Bob Hartley and idiot Darryl Sutter from Calgary is one win from a championship. |

Noted, but my point was basically, whenever there's a decision made...coaching, players, management, etc....and it's blogged about with a comment section underneath, people are going to write their initial reactions/opinions on that move even though the person involved has not played/managed/coached a game yet. Most likely, not everyone will agree on whether it was a good or bad move, but we talk about it anyway. It's sort of the reason we're all here, right? |

There is no official New York Islander announcement and nothing to talk about yet. Just the usual write something/anything so people writing can get page views, those who cannot stand Snow/Wang to do their usual dance even if the article was a weather report and the rest to write something. |

As much as they need Murray I'm always looking at O with the first pick |

Grigorenko is so intriguing to me. Some have said he has the most skill out of any player in the draft. His compete level and the ridiculous "Russian factor" are his knocks, along with a weaker 2nd half/playoffs (mono). I want Galchenyuk, but I'm starting to think Grigorenko might fall to us.
I think Murray is getting slightly overrated because he's the best defenseman in the draft. He's gonna be good, but not a franchise kinda guy. |

Thought you may find this a little funny..
Jon Sim has his kids in my Wife's gymnastics gym. His kids are very young and they were allowed to have the parents on the floor to show off the new skills they have learned. His boy goes out and says "Dad come with me, its Father / Son day". Jon replied to him, "when is Mother / Son day"....to which my wife replied,,,,All Hockey season, now get your ass out there...
My wife is just 5 feet tall and has no problem putting someone in their place.. |

My point is .. You hate Cappy... so why do you care if they asked his permission to hire this coach? This guy sounds like he is a good coach and gets very fired up.. Most feel that if Cappy doesn't get results this year he will be on a short leash. This guy is not going to be the next coach... but will more than likely continue to be assistant coach when Cappy is gone. - niteislander
Its not about the coach himself. Its about the process that the team goes through to bring Thompson up. Its Garth making the decision, and it appears that he's making it unilaterally. It shouldn't be done that way. The coach should have significant input on who his assistants are. If you don't trust your coach to hire the right assistants, he shouldn't be your coach. I think it is demonstrative of the way things work in the Isles front office, and its indicative of why a higher profile, more veteran coach wants no part of the Islanders. |

1) other than botta, who has his issues with isles management, no one is reporting that cappy didnt have any input (not to mention the guy STILL hasnt been officially hired)
2) as pointed out, the devils decisions come from up top as well....its done them pretty well. |

Just to throw a wrench into your thinking.. Uncle Lou hires the assistants in NJ
XxNYIxX - XxNYIxX
There are 30 teams in the NHL. So far, Uncle Lou (track record of success) and Snow (no track record for success) have been the only 2 GM's identified that hire the assistant coaches. The other 28 teams?
I'll tell you what: when Snow gets to four Cup finals and wins three of them, he can hire all the assistant coaches he wants to with no input from the coach and no complaints from me. |

If you were a coach and your job was on the line, woudn't you want the power to hire the people who will most directly help/hurt your chances of keeping your job? I know i would. If Snow doesn't trust Cappy enough to hire his own assistants, then Snow shouldn't have Cappy coaching the team. Snow was GM when Nolan was coach. Didn't Ted Nolan bring in his own assistants? I don't get what's changed... |

i certainly would, doesnt mean id get that opportunity....
if you were a coach and your job was on the line BUT your boss wouldnt let you pick your own assistants, would you make a big deal about not having your own assistants knowing that if this job doesnt work out you may never sniff a hockey coaching job again? |
