here's my silly season suggestion for the day. don't know/doubt toronto would go for this, but. jvr bob #20 for luke schenn and #5? crazy or reasonable, you decide.

If you're trading JVR you better hope you get a better defensemen than Schenn coming back. I don't like that deal for the Flyers, actually, maybe I do.

I'm going to let the Jagr talk die down now. No need to go on about him until he signs (somewhere).

you have valid points all the way around...

all it is at this point is one opinion versus antoher opinion.

we shall see how the team shapes up. it's not like you or me are working for the Flyers.

I wish. I do have a Sports Management degree but decided to go into another field. One of my college roommates worked for the Phantoms and Flyers. He use to give me some inside info but he took a new job in Chicago.

I think they will succeed with or without him, too.

But what does the timing of the signing have to do with anything? If they have a plan in place to trade JvR or another young forward to help the defense, it's in place already. They have known for months who is available in the UFA class, and probably have a good idea what they want in terms of a contract.

If they sign Jagr tomorrow, it's not going to prevent them from adding defensive help. Nor does it mean that Jagr was a bigger priority to them than getting defense. It just means that they got a deal done with him before doing something else.

If signing Jagr prevents them from adding a piece on defense, they wouldn't be doing it.

Here is my question..

Is there a player in the game you would rather have your young guys looking up to?

If they want to add another young goalie to the stable, why not just go back to Joacim Eriksson? He had a great first season as an Elitserien starter and could be had for free, basically. It would be a hell of a lot safer than spending a top-pick on a goalie that is a good 5-6 years away from really helping the club, no matter how athletic or 'safe' that pick may seem on draft day.

Sure there are other guys like Selanne, but how many ever become available, and for a decent price, and can still play top line minutes. Almost feels to me like what we lost with Pronger leadership wise was picked up by Jagr.

I was never a huge Knuble fan. Never liked the penalities he took. I admit I under-estimated what he did for this team, but I dont think he can play in Lavi's system at his age. Just too aggressive. Jagr is conditioned for it...

I'm not saying the players dont want him back. Players are willing to speak up and stick up for teammates all the time. Do they like Jagr of course, why wouldnt they? However the Flyers are running a team and Homer has to do whats best for that team. Signing Jagr might be whats best for the team and will soon find out but I'm not a fan of a player demanding to be in top line roles without earning it. Could he possibly start the season off in that role? Sure. However, if there are other players who earn that spot then Jagr will have to understand and take a backseat to that.
- stveshdy

I don't think Jagr said he wants it without earning it, tho. It's always been "a chance to play..." by that I think he wants an opportunity and if it doesn't workout then he would understand being demoted.

Why not add Knuble and Jagr, and have Bobby Clarke center them?
