the Rangers aren't really set on the right side of the blueline for years to come though.

Girardi is a UFA in 2 more years, you think he will be re-signed of course, but who knows what could happen. Others on the right side are Stralman, Sauer and McIlrath. All question marks in their own way. Schultz is that coveted righty.

The left side is McDonagh, Staal, Erixon and Del Zotto. I think one of Erixon and Del Zotto will eventually be a trade chip.

The Rangers need to go hard HARD for Schultz, IMO.

No No No No No No No. Not this time you guys always get the best players in free agency well too bad Schultz is coming to Canada and not the Blue Shirts i didn't say the Leafs but hes definitely coming to Canada.

I think they need to go for a more prove D than Schultz, while a great prospect, the Rags are contending now and if they can shore up that side for next year they could be competing for the finals again. Schultz is probably a year or two away from being a difference maker. It'll taake him a year just to get used to the 82 game schedule, let alone a lengthy playoff run.

Tell that to chris kreider.

Now i realize he doesn't have a full NHL season to this point, but he played all the way through and won a national championship and within days was playing with the rangers and had a phenomenal playoffs.

Rookie players can be difference makers just like anyone else. I would give this guy a real hard look. If they can land him that will free up someone other d-men to be traded for a top forward.

Non-starter imo. What Edmonton would ask, NY won't give.

you know what the Oilers could do?

They could draft Ryan Murray and hope in a few years that he is as good as Del Zotto is now.

next season Kovalchuk goes from a 6 million salary this year to an 11 million salary.

Brooks speculates this morning that this will be the last chance that teams get to front load a contract before the next CBA eliminates it, so Parise is likely to get a monster front loaded offer from somewhere.

With the Devils financial difficulties seems difficult to believe they'd be able to take that huge bump in Kovalchuk's salary and also sign Parise to a deal where they have to give him like 10 million up front.

Who would you guys give up for Weber? Hes a RFA so you have to trade for him or give him an offer sheet. I think if you give him an offer sheet the Preds will match it, so your gonna have to go the trade route
- hawks101010

This Rangers team doesn't need defense. I have no idea why we are talking about getting a guy like Weber. After watching Redden, and Roszival get paid like they did, idc how good Weber is I never want to pay a D-man over 4.5 million. Anybody want throw and offer sheet at Erik Karlsson? Everyone knows that Murray and Sather really don't like each other from when he leaked information out about Heatley.

I am all for going after Parise. I am trying to look at players that fit the mold of this team and Parise or Bobby Ryan both bring that physical forecheck, fast pace game. I would look to move some of the dead weight on this team. I would really consider listening to offers on Anisimov and Dubinsky. I know both are still young but I am growing tired of the inconsistency in there games. Don't want Mitchell back and I don't want Fedotenko back. Def bring back Prust and let Rupp play his 5 minutes a night. Want nothing to do with Bickell as well. I would bring back Strahlman because of what he brings offensively and he wasn't horrible defensively in the playoffs.

Oh yea sorry I went disappearing for awhile. lol

Hi Adam

every team needs Shea Weber, the 1977 Canadiens need Shea Weber, the 1982 Islanders need Shea Weber, the 1988 Oilers need Shea Weber.

You get my point

Parise scares me... I don't know if hes worth the 7 mil he is going to command. I'd rather stand pat. Or make a trade for a Bobby Ryan if you want to make a splash. Push for a Dubi-McIllrath-First and Second if he resigns type deal even though i dont think they would do that.

Wrote this at bottom of the blog but didn't get any comments to it. Let me know what you think:

"Wanted to get the readers' view how to handle the season review. Would you prefer it like Adam French did where he did a line by line recap/assessment of each player or prefer like I did last year when I did it alphabetically? Also, would you rather have me do that starting now or wait until the summer and just focus for now on any Rangers' news and lead up to the draft/free agency."

Since the team could change by the draft I'd start now and I prefer alphabetically. A line-by-line review won't work because the forward lines were constantly shuffling.

IMO, I think Parise is a better, more complete player than Bobby Ryan. But putting that aside for a minute, let's say that Parise does command $7 million per year, and let's assume that it is possible that the Rangers can land him. Is the $1.5 million per year savings that Ryan offers over Parise over the next couple of years, worth giving up all the player personnel necessary to acquire him.

Put differently, I would rather have Parise at $7 million a year without having to give up any personnel that could be used in other trades, than Ryan at $5.5 million a year with a significant package going the other way.

Believe I heard he's going to have back surgery for a herniated disk in his back after the season is over so who knows what kind of recovery he's looking at.

What is scary is the track record of crossing the Hudson, Parise is it, work ethic on and off the ice is impeccable, the Rangers will do more than kick the tires with his agent and if we land him we will not be sorry, if he re-signs hopefully it will bankrupt the Devils, I honestly seem him somewhere else next season.

Yeah, Meszaros had a sliver of disk removed and was back in playoff games 5-6 weeks later. But no idea the extent of Kovalchuk's injury or surgery.
