What is scary is the track record of crossing the Hudson, Parise is it, work ethic on and off the ice is impeccable, the Rangers will do more than kick the tires with his agent and if we land him we will not be sorry, if he re-signs hopefully it will bankrupt the Devils, I honestly seem him somewhere else next season. - HankdaTank
I'm not a big believer in the track record with former Devils meaning anything. Each player should be judged on their individual merits. I neither think that Zach Parise will bust out like Bobby Holik or Scott Gomez, nor do I think that those signings should play any role in the Rangers analysis. Doing so would be the equivalent of a NFL football team deciding not to draft a franchise quarterback, because they had a couple of previous high selections bust out.

IMO, I think Parise is a better, more complete player than Bobby Ryan. But putting that aside for a minute, let's say that Parise does command $7 million per year, and let's assume that it is possible that the Rangers can land him. Is the $1.5 million per year savings that Ryan offers over Parise over the next couple of years, worth giving up all the player personnel necessary to acquire him.
Put differently, I would rather have Parise at $7 million a year without having to give up any personnel that could be used in other trades, than Ryan at $5.5 million a year with a significant package going the other way. - Pete V
I look at it more in the sense of if Dubi is in a trade for Ryan, Salary wise it's basically Ryan for Dubi. I also think any trade for bobby ryan would and should only include Dubi as a roster player. Just think its not jsut 7 mil a season. I think its gonan take a crazy kid of contract all over again like we did with Richards to land him and I dont think we can risk having 2 of those and expect to keep our own.
EDIT: Dont get me wrong I'd do a back flip if we got Parise, I am honestly just playing devils advocate |

The problem we had with Holik and with Gomez is we compensated them in line with something they never were; top line players. Gomez in his prime was a very good 2nd line C who could be a #1 C on some teams. We paid him like an elite player in the league. Holik was given crazy money but he was never anything more than the best 3rd line C in the NHL. He was big and mean and could score some but at $9 million per he needed to be a 40 - 50 goal scorer.
Parise will be compensated (on an AAV basis) like the star that he is. The deal may be frontloaded in order to guarantee a hefty payout in advance of a potential lockout and to also make it more prohibitive for the Devils to make a deal. However if the AAV is around $7 million then he will be fairly compensated for the production he brings.
And not all Devil UFA's have struggled with the Rangers. I think both John MacLean and Bruce Driver were pretty good players even if they were in their respective career twilights. |

One thing to remember is that Gabby's cap hit is gone in two years when the team will need to extend Kreider among others. Rupp's deal will also be off the books that summer. We should, even with another $7 million contract on the ledger, have enough to keep our own unless the new CBA slashes the cap ceiling a bunch. |

Is this Shultz kid supposed to be this good? Does anyone have an NHL comparable that he may turn into? |

You couldn't find fans more happy with a player as much as Rangers fans are with Ryan McDonagh right now.
Since they come from the same program at University of Wisconsin, I think that's probably the biggest reason Rangers fans are freaking over him.
But I did read a draft expert say if Schultz was available in this current draft he'd project him to go around 7th overall. |

Every source I've read has him as a top-four lock pretty much. He is a little on the light side but has tremendous offensive ability. Just a thought as I've never seen much of him in action but from all I've read I start thinking best case scenario is Brian Rafalski; a fellow former Wisconsin Badger D. He's taller than Rafalski but the RH shot and offensive ability are what I think of. |

This Rangers team doesn't need defense. I have no idea why we are talking about getting a guy like Weber. After watching Redden, and Roszival get paid like they did, idc how good Weber is I never want to pay a D-man over 4.5 million. Anybody want throw and offer sheet at Erik Karlsson? Everyone knows that Murray and Sather really don't like each other from when he leaked information out about Heatley.
I am all for going after Parise. I am trying to look at players that fit the mold of this team and Parise or Bobby Ryan both bring that physical forecheck, fast pace game. I would look to move some of the dead weight on this team. I would really consider listening to offers on Anisimov and Dubinsky. I know both are still young but I am growing tired of the inconsistency in there games. Don't want Mitchell back and I don't want Fedotenko back. Def bring back Prust and let Rupp play his 5 minutes a night. Want nothing to do with Bickell as well. I would bring back Strahlman because of what he brings offensively and he wasn't horrible defensively in the playoffs.
Oh yea sorry I went disappearing for awhile. lol - adwolf130
Hello Adam... what is that you say about Dubinsky?
BAHAHAHAHAHA. |

I am pretty sure, isn't that how it always works? I haven't read them though, so I can't answer for sure. |

I'm waiting for confirmation from another source close to the situation before elevating it to a GKM5. |

if you're talking about Thrones then i have to agree. I've never read the books. I consider that a good thing because i'll be surprised every episode. The show is amazing. |

yeah fair nuff!
Will use three references here.
Harry Potter, read the books, the movies were mediocre / very hard to follow.
Lord of the Rings, watched the films, then read the books. The books were a little TOO much, where are the films hit all the perfect points and had solid character development.
The Hunger Games, great book, mediocre film.
I may catch up on Game of Thrones this summer. If time permits. |
