Staal would be amazing in Phoenix... He could be an offensive star for them and still play amazingly in his own end. I think once Runblad Gormely and Larsson are fully developed Yandle will be very expandable but losing him now would definitely hurt them. But Staal Hanzal Vermette up the middle is actually a pretty solid one.

Larsson is already pretty darn good.

I never said I'm the only one who can play GM. Playing GM means proposing possible deals, discussing them, possible free agent signings, etc etc etc. Playing GM does not include saying nobody wants this guy or that guy is just ridiculous and disrespectful......well, unless we're talking about Scott Gomez that is.

There is a reason why folks, Toronto fans, bring up Kadri, Komissarek, MacArthur in trade ideas. You don't want them on your roster and want to pawn them off on someone else. I can see someone maybe taking Kulemin and hoping he has another 30-goal season. However, Kadri and Komissarek are a different deal. Of course, all it takes is one idiot GM that wants them, but the vast majority, I will say 27 of the remaining 29 wouldn't touch either one of them now.

I whole-heartedly and respectfully disagree. I don't want to trade Kulemin and I don't want to trade Kadri. Hell, I don't even want to trade Schenn. But they are assets.....and they do have value. They are pieces we can part with to help other areas because Burke has set it up so that we have replacements. Franson and/or Holzer can replace Schenn if need be. Frattin, Colborne, our 5th overall pick, etc can replace the others. But we need to address other areas of the lineup so those players become expendable. It's very simple. Why is Luongo available? Because Schneider has made him (and his terrible contract) expendable. Why would Staal possibly be available? Because of Sid and Geno. That's the way it works....supply and demand.

Pittsburgh needs more Defensive Defensemen, not a offensive like Yandle. They need a willie Mitchell or a matt greene.

your missing the point. there has to be demand for the supply and demand, and there is none for kadri, komiserik, etc. they are only assets if the demand is present. you have to sacrifice assets to upgrade other areas of your team. thats like a pens fan offering up players like martin, kennedy, etc. deals like "schenn, kadri, kulemin, 2nd rounder for staal" translate to "martin, tangradi, kennedy, 2nd for kessel"

Toronto fan thinks they can get what they want with bodies. A combination of bodies with little to no value together can get a big body back. It doesn't work that way. Kadri isn't an asset right now. Whether he gets it or not remains to be seen. An asset is something that can get you a second round pick or better. Anything less is pointless. He, along with others mentioned by them in trade ideas, can't get that type of return IMO.

thats right, as soon as a player puts a leaf jersey on he loses all value

its like getting a new car then scratching the paint right?

for all the leaf fans who do over-value their players there are 3 fans who undervalue leaf players

the exageration surrounding both supporters and detractors is nothing short of astounding really

IN this guys world hes still a 3rd line center cause Strome is going to be so good. So good that it will seem as the roof is falling down.

I can name 3 over rated players in Buffalo whos first or last name starts with R

- hubie

We aren't talking about my team, we are talking about Staal for Yandle. If it makes you feel better to make fun of the Islanders and Strome(?)go right ahead?

What an idiot. I can name three players in Buffalo for starters who are more overrated without question. Yep, I guess the Islanders couldn't use a 23-year old two-way forward.
- Oneonta Penguin

We aren't talking about Buffalo's players we are talking about Staal for Yandle, remember? I'm an idiot? As far as what the Islanders could use they need alot, thanks for pointing that out captain obvious! Don't know what that has to do with the topic though, are you upset I said Staal is overrated? He is, get over it.

I have seen nothing to indicate that Staal is anything better than a third line forward. Yandle in my opinion is a top 20 dman. The prospect Pittsburg gives up better be 2 first round picks for this to balance.
- bsteinley

Then you're blind. Staal is a 25 goal scorer on a third line. This guy will win a Selke and is without a doubt a top line center. He will easily score 30 goals with top line talent next to him. As for Yandle he is a good offensive defensemen with great skating ability and does a good job quarterbacking the power play but he stic=nks in his own end and is not physical at all which means that he gets torched by all of the stud forwards in the NHL. I think that Pheonix would have to give up a second rounder and Yandle plus a conditional first round not third round pick in order to get Staal. The penguins could throw in Lovejoy too just to help the coyotes bridge the gap until one of their many defensie prospects could move up to the NHL.

Career year, I don't see him doing it again unless Crosby is out long term again.
- HankdaTank

He had 29 his rookie year. He would be elevated to the power play which should help production. Staal is a very good second line center. He is 23 has a huge body that he is learning how to use. I'm not interested in Yandle I'd prefer to keep Staal. Maybe a move to 87's wing could happen

The Toronto GM over values his assetts too though... I am sure Snow would take Komisarek off Toronto's hands b/c we could use the physical play and he is from long island..etc. But realistically it would be a favor to Leafs that free up a ton of cap space. If you asked Burke he would want DeHaan for him.

Maybe he is a 25 goal scorer b/c he is on a team with Malkin and Crosby. Maybe most teams match their best players against those lines.... maybe when he becomes the top line center that Pens feel he really is.. he is a 15 goal scorer. That is the question.

many GMs are guilty of this.. and if Burke hasnt clued in enough to move komi for even a 7th he needs a serious kick in the arse lol

i've been making this point myself..

when both crosby and malkin were hurt and staal was put on the top line with neil he wasnt overly impressive

The rumor last year was Snow tried to take Komi and Burke wanted one of the Isles prospects for him.

90% of the time Staal is matched against other team's best line.

For those who don't know much abou Staal, he's a gamer and hes for real...at 23 years old.

If we didn't have one of Crosby or Malkin Staal would be untradeable.

If he gets traded hope we get a VERY GOOD winger in return and a 3rd line C.
